I bought new a 2015 Corvette LT2 7 speed. It is a daily driver but I drive and care for it like it was my pet. I am the only driver. I am 70 years old and have never abused this car and at 27,000 miles started to experience clutch chatter in 1st gear. The dealer confirms that the clutch needs repair but GM will not cover this repair although it is under full warranty. I believe this pre mature failure and NOT abuse. Is anyone else experiencing this problem with this model and/or GM? Gary.
What do they mean by repair? Is the clutch worn out or is something broken? If its worn out then I can see their argument. But if something is broken then you should have a case to argue.
My clutch will chatter sometimes when going into gear from a stop, its done that since ive had the car at 7k miles. it doesnt slip or anything. I figured it was normal

If the chatter is due to wear it isn't covered under warranty. Just being easy on a clutch doesn't mean you used it correctly.

The dealership says the chatter is NOT normal and suspects a problem. They are going to open up the housing/clutch and look to determine the problem. I just gave them the OK to do this just one hour ago so I suspect I will find out tomorrow. Thanks for reply.

Thanks for your reply Bill. I have had manuals for many years and know to catch the friction point and then engage the clutch immediately. Is there a another or better way? I have never wore out a clutch prior to this Corvette and so I am really suspect if GM engineered enough strength/quality/toughness in this assembly. So, for the sake of argument, if this car was driven correctly shouldn't the user expect more then 27,000 before it needs a new clutch? And that is my case. I just gave permission for the dealership to open up the housing to see if there was a contributing factor to all this. I should find out tomorrow what they feel the cause will be.
Thanks again for your input.

Take this with a grain of salt, however what you are describing is what a very good chevy tech told me he had repaired on another customers Vette. What he found was the chatter was a result of a failed thrust bearing. The crank had lots of for and aft play, and that is how he diagnosed the problem initially. Just something to consider....

Yes, it should go much farther without issues; my C5 has and I expect my C7 to do the same.
This is not a common complaint from my experience and I'm waiting to see what they found when they opened yours up. All the best.
Thank you for response. The dealership has had my car since 8:30 Tuesday and it is Thursday morning and I have not been given the results of the inspection yet. Stay tuned.

I have preached up and down the drive train on the C7 is garbage and the earlier C7's have flywheel issues that cause hot spots and then the clutch is toast.
GM paid for all my parts to include slave cyl...I paid labor at the discounted warranty repair rate of 87 bucks or so.....fight it and get a case #

Thank you Ryan for your information. I am working with the Service Manager on this issue as I type. I will ask him about any flywheel issues causing this problem.
Thanks again.

They wont admit anything, I had to go over their heads and do a case. That is the only way it got resolved. I also had to escalate the case to the next level and say I was willing to split it with them and they agreed. See if you can get it all paid for first.
Don't know if may still be an issue but the dual mass flywheel in my 96 GS was the culprit that appeared to be a clutch chatter problem. Apparently the "cushion" between the two sections of the flywheel was the weak point in the clutch assembly.
One thing I have not seen on this forum is GM rep's. On several other forums they were fairly active and mostly helpful. Are they here??
The car is in the air now and I am waiting to hear from the service Manager as to the actual problem and should know in 1-2 hours. Thanks for letting me know that Reps can be available. I will ask about Reps if this issue needs to go that far.

Hi Ryan,
You were right! Just heard from service people and it was hot spots on the flywheel. My Corvette warranty is up but I have the GMPP Major Guard. They said it was a $5800.00 job and are now presenting it to GMPP. It should be covered and I am waiting to here from dealership on any possible cost to me.
Thanks for your insight.

I am going to follow this post as my 16 z51 with 15k miles on it has really bad clutch chatter and has basically had it from day one. I was sure if it was just a normal characteristic of the car so i never brought it to the dealers attention. Another thing i notice is when letting of the clutch i get a very slight rotational bearing sound. - Mike
