Hey guys, I've been interested in getting a Borla X pipe for my Z06, However, I've been reading a lot of conflicting information regarding tunes and invalidation of warranty. Can someone definitively tell me if the car needs a tune with this X pipe or if it makes the warranty invalid? I don't want to tune (because of the warranty) and I don't want the warranty automatically axed because of the X pipe (even w/out a tune). Can anyone help?
I too was worried about this issue. I had three different dealers inform me that I could put an X pipe and new exhaust and there would be no issue. I went with the Corsa Xtreme. I contacted Corsa b/c I am stationed in a town full of trucks and not too many Corvettes. I took the install directions and sent the YouTube clip to the exhaust shop. It all worked out. If you are in a decent location that has an experienced shop, I wouldn’t worry at all.

In-n-out, thanks for your reply. I feel a lot better about it now!
I am in NJ. I actually just took mine to a shop to have a Borla X pipe installed on Saturday. They said it was illegal and could be fined 20k for installing. I called another shop and they said same thing. Not street legal in NJ. That just gave me the motivation and I went home and did it myself. It is an easy job if you have a lift. It took me 3 hours cause I don’t and used a jack and jack stands. It was tight quarters but got it done. Any issues I can always put the stock back on.

No tune needed
Will not void warrenty
The pup cats are down stream of the o2 Sensors (after)
so there is no change at all in emissions monitoring.
The two main cats are still monitored in the exact same way
as they were before (no change)

Not sure which shops told you that but they've gotta be on some serious drugs. I've driven in NJ for the last 13 years with completely cat-less cars, let alone just an X-pipe, and the only ticket I've ever received is for loud exhaust which is no points and a laughable fine. There was a time that I was being ticketed nearly monthly in my SRT4 for it's loud exhaust, until the cops in my area got to know me and started cutting me some slack because I was always respectful and cooperative. My Z has been cat-less and with a Borla X for all but 800 miles of it's 15xxx life and I haven't been ticketed a single time for loud exhaust and I've been up and down the state at all hours of the day/night. In fact, the few times I've been caught doing questionable things with it, the officers often complimented me on the car's look and sound.
OP, as CCA said, there's no tune required and it won't void the warranty.
what about the borla offroad xpipe?
that's what I ordered and...
Yes I am worried now..
I only thought if u put headers on it voided warranty.

It was the Mufflex shop on Trenton which is supposedly recommended in this area. He said they could be fined 20k for installing it. Like I said I did it myself that day and am happy with it. Not worried at all about cops or inspections. The noise is not so loud as to attract attention.
if you do.. go 60547.. the 'off-road' catless one.
As a matter of fact, you can install yourself, very easy to do, tons of YouTube videos to make you comfortable if not mechanically inclined. I put the Borla x-pipe on my GS, bolts right on, awesome at WOT!, quiet when just scoot’n around, town, with no drone.

That is breaking the law, and they can receive heavy fines, if the car is driven on public roads. Go check the laws.
Sure, . and I modded the heck out of my vette when I lived in NJ.
Trailer it in, sign a waiver that it won't be driven on public roads, load it tow away.
Then it's on you not the installer.

Agree, Federal Law prohibits shops from deleting the emissions equipment and shops that are caught doing so can be fined $20K. That means removing cats that aren't monitored. If you remember up until about 20 years ago no cats were monitored. As for driving around town there are plenty of cars with properly installed cats that are loud. No LEO is going to crawl under your car to verify if you have them or not.
Install it yourself. There's a cute little redhead on youtube that did it, good video. I did mine on jack stands. About 2 hours. Piece of cake.
that cute little redhead video is kind of a joke. It was obviously prepped and all the somewhat difficult parts were made to look very easy. I’m not saying it is that hard. I did it myself with just jack stands also but it took me three hours and I was sore for two days. I am in good shape and not that old either. Just take time and make sure you have tools lined up. Getting that rubber piece off was hard without the specialized tool. Other than that just pulling the old pipe off once unbolted took a little muscle. Worst part is working in cramped quarters. A lift makes this a very easy job I would say.
