Recently I installed a GTC500 Wing on the Vette. The stock factory gas strut supports wont hold up the trunk anymore. It sucks, because I always have to prop the trunk to take stuff in and out.
I am looking into replacing the factory strut and I have found a website to order from, the problem is..the website has many different LBS force strenght levels. Since the stock C7 strut wont hold up my truck, I was wondering what the factory LBS strut force is? Once I know the force LBS number, I can than determine how much higher of a LBS strut force I need so my trunk stays open.
I had the same problem on my C6 when I added a GT500 wing onto the rear hatch. I can't remember the name of the company I used but you can Google gas strut supports and you'll get numerous companies that sell replacement gas struts. To start with, I used the application for a stock C6 which gave me the length and lbs rated. Then I went two numbers above that but using the same length and mounting style. Worked fine and held up the wing mounted hatch.

thank you so much. That's exactly what I did. They have actually been shipped already.
If you know what the original struts are rated at, can you use a prop rod and a weight scale and determine how much more you need? Or support the trunk lid from above with a fish scale? Or just disconnect the struts and weigh the entire lid with it open?
