IMHO the nav system in my 2014 Z51 is the worst I have ever encountered. The voice recognition is totally useless. The only thing it will understand is "HOME". The screen touch entry is vague and slow.
I have just received an email offering a "special" price for the latest update. ($99 instead of $159)
So, my question is: Does anyone have advice on helping making the system perform acceptably? Will the update help the functioning of the system or is it just updated maps and points of interest ?

you really need to update the HMI and the radio to get what you are after.
The good:
This will include Android Auto/ Apple Car Play
The unit will act significantly faster than the one you currently have.
The bad:
This is about a $1200 upgrade using 2016+ parts and a little bit of creativity.
This will include no performance gains on the sound.
I have not made the upgrade myself. I just use my phone for navigation.

I also have a 14 Z51 that i would like to update.
What exactly needs replaced to accomplish this? I've been searching for this info for a few weeks and haven't found much info yet.

There are ways to buy the parts separately and program the system yourself, but I am not 100% sure on how to do that. There is a thread somewhere about that, but I can't find it at the moment.

It does suck and when someone has an upgrade that is turnkey, even if expensive, I'll likely do it. But each time there's still a caveat about "won't work with the Z" or something, so I'm not sure it's 100% ready for prime time, That was a few months back though, maybe they've sorted that.
