Seat belt pretensioners deployed

Seat belt pretensioners deployed
Ran over a board on the highway and while braking the seat belts deployed. No body damage but one rim was slightly bent. Looking at $3,500 in repairs. That includes a new SDM module. There was no air bag deployment. Does anyone know the criterior for the pretensioners being deployed? I thought they were in conjunction with the air bag. Dealer said it is not a warranty issue but could not offer a reason for the deployment.

I had the pre-tensioners deploy on my Silverado last year. You can send them out to www.safetyrestore.com They rebuild them and have a quick turn around time. I think it was about $50 each. Usually your "seat belt' light will shut off after installing the rebuilt belts. I say "usually", my light did not automatically reset. I purchased a and was able to reset the ABS/SRS light

I imagine they can be deployed if the G forces experienced by the car are sufficient to exceed what ever level is programmed into the SRS sensor. The Air Bags didn't deploy because there was no impact with anything. By the way do you have an active OnStar account? If so did the car call OnStar to report an incident?

I thought the main purpose of the seat belt tensioners was to help keep occupants away from the airbag deployment zone. It's strange that they were triggered with no airbag deployed.
Pretensioners / seat belts were $93/side back when I had an incident with my Camaro. I'd rather buy them new if the rebuild cost is close to new.
Does that handheld device clear codes in SDM module? In my case, instead of getting it replaced (which requires a dealer visit for VIN programing), I ended up getting the codes cleared by sending it to a place I found on eBay for $40.

I bought a Scan tool capable of resetting ABS/SRS codes for about $100 on Amazon. No need to pull the SDM module out of the car. Plus, I have a nice scan tool in my box!

I wonder if this is in any way connected to whatever the issue was that triggered the pre tensioner recall?
