I received the new Mishimoto 180* tstat today, and it looks just like the pic they have on their website and appears to be the same design as the OEM tstat per the pic in my OP. Will put it on this weekend, but with the weather still being cool here in Colorado, I'm not sure I'll notice much of a difference. The main reason I wanted to go with this temp was to avoid tuning for now, not have to pay the $$ for the tstat housing that will accept older LS3 tstats, and not have to "cobble" together one by pulling a bulb off and transplanting it. I'm just hoping it will help me to avoid any temp issues for the upcoming track season.

After 1 lap you won't know you had a different tstat. Hell. Even just sitting in the grid will get you up to stock tstat temp. It has virtually zero effect for track driving.

going to have to order this ASAP. pretty sure my mishimito from last year failed today.

car was driving normal then all of a sudden it went up from 220 to 240-250, shut it down crawled home.

hose going into TSTAT housing super hot, lower hose, hot but not nearly as hot to touch.

car only has 6k on it with a procharger and low boost... so i either blew a head gasket (doubt it as it has no other signs) or more than likely the mishimito original design failed.

what were your symptoms when it failed ?

Dude. I've said it. I'll say it again. Just buy a summitt 170 tsat. Pull your stock one out. Push out the bulb. Put the 170 bulb in .tada.
