Hey all! I wanted to see if anyone would like to chime in on oil weight specifically after a cam install. I'm searching and it seems valvoline 10w 40 is the general consensus.

If you have a cam I'd appreciate your input!
I am cammed with over 1000 rwhp and I am still using stock weight oil 5W30. I live in Florida.
Thanks FYREANT, just conflicted as the shop that built is says use the 10W-40...
Figured I'd ask around before causing any damage!
They may be referring to “break in oil”. Oil that has special ZDDP additives to aid in the break in process. I used a 10w40 breakin oil on my engine after I built it and then changed the oil after 500 miles and went to my normal Mobil 1 5w30.
Thank you everyone! Did the 10w 40 conventional with a WIX filter. I'll keep an eye on the pressure and any noises...any other guidance is much appreciated!
We run all Joe Gibbs Driven oils in house now, and use a standard LS30 (5w30) for normal cam-only cars like this, and then step up to the DT40 (5w40) on aftermarket shortblocks and higher power applications (around 800+ wheel). The biggest benefit is a high-zinc content that helps with hardening on aftermarket internal parts like the cam/lifters/etc. Obviously other oils are used/recommended for more hardcore race oriented applications or extreme climates.
