I have a 2014 Z-51 Corvette and yesterday went to the local Chevrolet dealership to pick up an oil filter. They gave me a UPF64R oil filter instead of the PF64 I had previously gotten from them. I asked about the change with the filter and the parts guy told me that this was an updated recommendation from GM for the Corvette. Can anyone confirm if this is the case? I don't want to use the wrong filter. What is the difference between the PF64 and the UPF64R. Thanks in advance your help and I did search the forums for an answer to this question prior to posting.
O.K. This is a partial answer to my question and thanks for the reference. The other and perhaps more important part of the question is this: Is the UPF64R a new/revised GM oil filter recommendation for the Corvette? Again, I don't want to use a non-recommended filter. This thread did not answer this question. Thanks.
The UPF64R is not the right choice for the Corvette, it's actually the filter for the Chevy Spark and it has a bypass pressure that is too high (35psi vs the recommended 22psi)
On a totally unrelated note, when I saw this thread in the forum list I saw Fastdart and Patman and my mind mashed it together and I read Fartman. I literally had to look twice for my brain to say "Oh".

They really shouldn't list it though, even though it fits. There is a TSB from GM stating that it's very important to run a filter with a 22 psi bypass on it and as I've stated, the UPF64R has a 35 psi bypass.

If I understand the TSB correctly, the original ACDelco filters PF48 had a bypass pressure of 15 psi so they developed the newer filter PF64 with a 22 psi bypass so that the filter isn't in bypass under normal operation. With the UPF64R having a 35 psi bypass it is even less likely than the PF64 to be in bypass so I'm not understanding why there would be an issue with running it???

What you're saying does make sense, however I still would rather stick closer to the proper spec anyways. Besides, I'm not a huge fan of any of the AC Delco oil filters these days. There was a time when they were well made filters, but now, not so much. I have seen pictures of one cut open that had it's filtering media torn, so it doesn't give me confidence in it's filtering ability. I prefer a higher quality filter like the Fram Ultra (they have recently released a 22psi version called the XG12060) or the NAPA Gold/Wix (I'm currently running the NAPA Gold 100290, which is their new 22psi filter) My preference is to run a filter with fully synthetic filtering media, so I hope to get my hands on the new Ultra for my next oil change.

I'm not a big fan of the ACDelcos either but did order a few UPF64R recently. I have been running the Mobil 1 M1-113 due to the good feedback it appears to receive. Online photos that I had seen of the UPF64R led me to believe that it is the exact same unit as the Mobil 1 M1-113. From my personal side by side comparison of the two, I still believe that they are the same and suspect that ACDelco doesn't even make the UPF64R. They likely just slap their paint colors and logo on the M1-113 and call it good. The cost is less on the UPF64R by a couple bucks. Those NAPA and Wix filters are certainly great options as well.
