Just installed Kooks long tubes on my '15. Battery was disconnected. Obviously it needs to be tuned but is there some sort of limp mode while the CEL is on for the O2s? the trans is shifting very sluggishly and weird. Also, my mode selector wont change the DIC screens anymore it will show that it's going into each mode but the screen isn't changing like it did before. Just thought this was strange just from a header install.
the selector switch still changes the modes but when you unhooked the battery the display goes back to sport mode on mine and i have to use the steering wheel buttons to re link the display to the selector position, it must revert to default
Typical behavior for an untuned A8 car with headers. If you want the technical answer, head over to HPTuners forum and I'll explain it there. Short answer, get a tune.

TriPinTaZ , just sent u an email thru the forum ...
So no one knows how the A8 shifts before tuning after headers? Idk if it's messing with the torque tables or what since it's breathing better now
So there are a ton of posts about installing headers and guys running them without a tune , none report any issues with the way the trans shifts . I am watching this thread closely as I am about to install my headers ....
Did you check the CEL to make sure it was for rear O2 sensors and not something else ?

Yes the only codes were o2s. I'm definitely getting a tune but I looked everywhere online and no one seems to relay these issues. Or these guys just have their tuners install the headers and never drive it before the tune.

So I just spoke to my tuner and he said that installing headers will have absolutely nothing to.do.with the way the transmission shifts ....

The Transmission shifts based on torque. The airmodel affects torque values. Adding headers to a car changes the airmodel, hence changing the value of torque the TCM sees. Now at full throttle it likely wont have much of an effect since the torque value will still be high. But at part throttle it will change the torque model enough to make the shifting feel different at some RPMs and Throttle %. Add ported intake/TB and this affects it even more.
I don't care who did what, what anyone reads on the internet, whos buddy did it this way or that way, or how fast someone thinks their car is untuned. If you mod your car you will always have better drivability and more power tuned than without tuning. Not to mention the people with mods but without tunes have never looked at torque logs of the car when stock and after the mods and untuned. Seeing how the engine behaves between the two might change some peoples minds.
