I have a 2014 Laguna Blue 2lt that I intend to have some paint correction and a ceramic coat applied to in about a month. The car was purchased used and had some minor chips in the front cover. The detailer I spoke to and I agreed that the chips, with the exception of two or three, would not be much of an issue. Someday in the future I would have the cover repainted and the detailer would reapply the ceramic. As I cleaned up some really small chips with a Dr.Colorchip kit yesterday, I realized that the former owner had use some type of vinyl covering on the chrome strip on the grill. It is fading and I have decided to replace it with the JWM Motorports Z06 grill.
My questions are:
Is it better/less costly to have the cover prepped and repainted while the cover is off for the grill replacement?
Any disadvantage to going ahead with replacing the grill now and doing the paint work next winter?
I am in the Cleveland, Ohio area and would like a recommendation on a body shop for the paint work if anyone has one.
My suggestion is less technical and more emotional. We're finally coming into spring after a long, crappy winter. Swap the grille over a weekend, and enjoy some driving time. Take it apart for the repaint when you're ready to lay it up for next winter, when you're less sensitive to delays or downtime at the paint shop.
Thanks, I understand what you're saying. I should have looked at this earlier but just made the decision to do the ceramic coating which set the rest of this in motion. As it turns out, I can save about $400.00 if I take the cover off myself and deliver it to the body shop for repaint.
