LOS ANGELES — Consumers claim in a federal class action that wheels on the General Motors Chevrolet Corvette Z06 since 2015 and Corvette Grand Sport since 2017 warp, bend and crack.
GM had to have seen this coming. They will drag this out and the only people that really get paid will be the lawyers. Sucks. I'm shopping forged wheels right now.
spinkick said it all. Total waste of resources for all but the attorneys. Untold years from now one might... or might not, be "compensated" to the tune of a few bucks. Check out how many, if not most, Class Action suits against the BIG guys turn out. Or, if too small, they simply declare bankruptcy and end it all right there, for all intent and purposes as far as the consumer goes.
I just contacted the law firm that filed the class action suit against GM. They are going after GM for 2 issues:
1. the automatic transmission
2. the cracking wheels
Will have more information for the CF soon. Stay tuned.
Capstone Law Firm has recently filed a class action law suit against GM and contends that the rims are defective in 2015 to present Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vehicles and 2017 to present Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport vehicles. They are also looking into issues with the 8 speed automatic transmissions in 2015 to present Chevy Corvettes (any model with 8 speed auto transmission). This law firm extends an open invitation to anyone affected by one or both of the issues above to contact them and said they would be happy to discuss their case with any affected vehicle owner.
He added the following for those that didn't know:
For the issue with the wheels/rims on the model vehicles mentioned above, a common symptom of the wheels/rim being cracked or warped is that the tire loses air pressure more quickly than usual. Feel free to call me at any time if you would like to discuss this further.
PS: I don't work for the law firm nor do I gain anything from trying to help my fellow CF members to learn more about this matter. Just trying to get the info out there to those that might be affected and want the information...

Reason: motive clarification
Hey go for it guys. They will do nothing until they are sued. My C7 got smashed because the stupid HOA/Condo Association didn't maintain the garage, despite warnings & a 100% increase in condo fee, and I am going to lawyer up and roast these guys.
Question, which WHEELS are crack prone? Is it just the stock Grand sport Wheels or are we talking all the Corvette wheels made by GM? I am buying new wheels and don't want anything that will crack, even if it means not with GM. Do Z06 and ZR1 wheels also crack? That would seem crazy to me.

There was a fantastic post written up by someone here on the forum about cost vs benefit of aftermarket wheels. Do a little search for forged wheels. I'm sure you'll find it.
Shortly after its first trip to the test track, however, the Grand Sport showed signs of an ailment that would dog us throughout our time with the car. At just under 6500 miles we discovered that three of its wheels were bent. Two were repaired, but one was cracked and had to be replaced. In all, that was an $1119 trip to the Corvette cobbler, none of which was covered by warranty.

Just read the entire brief. It describes exactly what has been going on for who knows how many owner of ZO6/ Grand Sports for the past 4-5 years. These things take a long time but GM will eventually cave and move to a settlement.. Look for a check from GM sometime in 2022. I, too, am a 3 wheel victim on my 2016 ZO6 and it cost me over $6K to eliminate the problem by going the forged wheels and non run-flats.

Honestly, if you go forged, you could probably be fine with run flats.

Spinkick, You might be right but I'd had enough of dealing with the problem and was not really happy with the run-flats anyway. They're like fly paper and ride like a truck
