Default GM Jake air filter housing problem...

Has anyone else installed this housing?? If so read on.

Had today off so decided to assemble my QuickJack. After I got
that done decided to install my mamo ported TB and the
GM Jake air filter housing. After getting it installed there is a P
clip to install on the coolant tube.

Problem is the GM Jake housing sticks out farther than the OEM
housing so the coolant tubing lays somewhat on top of the
housing. I got the P-clip installed and everything in such a
way that it could have worked. Decided I better close the hood
and check clearance,NOPE. Hood will smash down onto the coolant
tube and pinch it between the housing and hood and caused
the hood to bulge up a little in that area.

Needless to say I took it back off and reinstalled the OEM housing.
So I am curious if anyone else has installed this housing and if
so did your coolant tubing sit down around the housing like it
does on the OEM housing?

If I were to install the P-clip as shown in the picture the tubing is
pulled so tight it actually pulls the radiator rearward so there
is excessive tension on the tubing. I had installed the P-clip
the opposite way so it would have worked but the hood
hits it. The picture is not mine.

Would need to see a picture of yours, And one question did you remove the harness clip below the filter and install the one supplied?

Yes I did reposition the wire harness per the directions. So in your first picture
your coolant tube isn't pulled really tight as it goes around the corner of the
housing back by the alternator?
As far as a picture of mine I was too bummed at the time and didn't
think about pictures until after I re-installed the oem housing.

I edited the picture I posted above (crudely) with the approximate
path of my tube with the P-clip rotated 180. If I try to install it like it is
suppose to be I can actually see it pull the radiator rearward some.
I even tried pulling the tubing out of the plastic clip a little further
back but didn't make any difference.

If I am understanding what you are saying, I can't do that.
If you see the red line I drew in the above picture, if
I get the line past that it pulls very tight. I took a couple
measurements of the OEM vs. the Jake. The Jake
housing is about 1/2" deeper. I don't know. I find it hard to believe
that the lines on my car would be shorter than any other.
I may try to install it again since it doesn't take that long depending
on if you drop a piece in between the radiator and fan.

I don't know what I'm missing here (not at the car looking at the line), but it would seen to me one could simply make a longer line or add in a short splice of some sort. No???

The line is plastic and is assembled almost like heat shrink tubing.
The forward and rear tubes and shrunk onto a tee. I suppose a
guy could get some parts and make one. I am not going to do
it but I did think if some light heat was applied to the tubing to take some
of the bend out of it, could work. As I said, not going to do that. I have done that
to plastic tubing before and is pretty easy to screw up.

I would like it if those that have this housing installed
and the tubing routed as directed if they would check how
much tension is on the tubing and if it is pulling on the
radiator. As I said I can't believe and components on
my car are any different than anyone else's.

Thanks for the replies and ideas so far.

all i ended up doing is pushing it down further
take that clamp flip it, so screw would be on top and the hose goes lower

Installed on 2019 and same situation as your ,kind of comes over the corner of the box but doesn't cause any problems on mine, some lines must be shorter than others.

I just installed mine but never found any instructions to do so. Mine also didn't come with a P clip and I didn't move any wire harness???
I did pop out the c clip to the left of the airbox and attach a pop tab zip tie in that hole to give that line some slack. I also attached the tube protector sleeve they provided on the corner of the airbox and pushed the line down like it is in your first picture.

Can anyone point me to the directions so I can see what wire harness you all are talking about. I didn't have any sort of harness in the way when I installed mine. Here is what mine looks like installed. The angle may look like the line is touching the alternator but it is not even close.

EDIT: Nevermind on the instructions, I just found them on Chevy's site. I had to search under 2019 Corvette instead of 2017. I'm ordering the missing P clamp and I will check on the headlight harness below to see if I need to move it like the instructions stated.

I went back and revised my install to follow GM's instructions. Two things I did differently. #1) the C clamp that is next to the A/C line, I kept that removed and installed a zip tie plug just like in my picture above. This gave that line some slack on the corner of the airbox. #2) Once I attached the line to the P clam on the corner and tightened it down I pushed downward on the P clam to bend it so that the coolant line sits at the same height as the top of the airbox. This allowed the coolant line to naturally sit below the lip just like it is in the picture above as well.

I think I did take off the clip by the ac line and still seemed like
it was a stretch to get it to the point where yours is. I did not
like that when I tried to get the line to the point where yours
is it was getting tight enough to the point where the radiator
was pulling back.
Since the nipple on the radiator and the line
are both plastic all I could see was something breaking and getting
stranded somewhere. I may try to install it again since it does not
take very long otherwise when I get mine in for the first service
I will see what they think.

Thanks for the reply TriPinTaZ.
