I have a 14 Z51, my dad has a 19 base model. Recently when he was picking his car up I noticed all the newer C7's are calling for 0W-40 oil and my 14 calls for 5w-30. So I'm wondering what changed and why?
0W-40 is the new recommendation but 5W-30 is fine as it was the original recommendation and likely the best oil for most drivers. The change was mainly to avoid switching back and forth with 15W-50 for track use. 0W-40 covers a wider range of possible conditions from cold start to hot track.

Since I now have a 2019 Z06 LT4, I have started using 0W-40 in my 2011 C6 ZR1 LS9 as well. In the heat of the summer, the LS9 has improved its hot idling oil pressure by 3 psi over the factory standard 5W-30. I would recommend you use the 0W-40 as well. JMHO

Absolutely, I used to run Motul 0W-40 in my DB9 and wanted to use it in the vette since I got it but wasn't sure if it would be beneficial or not.
I'm a 5W-30 guy myself... But, be sure to get the correct 0W-40, Dexos 2, not the Euro version (or whatever). Some have said the latter, ironically, was more readily available.
