2018-2019 engine lid

Ordered a painted 18-19 (apparently the ‘17 model has it own part #) engine cover/lid from Rpi, came out great!
I have a ‘16 (Yes I’m aware it’s only for looks and I already changed the hood liner for the taller lid)
My question is about the gasket.
They already had it in the channel but some was hanging out. I tried a few times to reset it but it appears to be too big.
Im sure I don’t cut to size? I’m going to attempt to attach pictures

Remove all of it, then put it back in the groove without any stretching. It should fit perfectly.

Maybe if you take it off and cool it in the frig, it might tighten up a little. Its much easier to stretch in the heat.

You might luck-out with the above suggestions, but I think it's been damaged and will not reliably do the job. Sorry.

Or, as a last resort before pitching it, you can try splicing to a tight fit and siliconing the "joint." Good luck!

Thanks guys, I’ll try the suggestions and just in case I order another gasket from Gm.
