Default HMI software update

Does anybody know how to determine which software version is running in the HMI ? I know that you can look at various aspects of the hmi by holding down power+home+menu, but I am unsure whether the "build version" refers to the software or the hmi itself. In other words, if the software is updated should there be a change in the build version or anywhere else in the hmi menu?

Thanks, E-fish

HMI 2.0 and 2.5 refers to the hardware versions shipped with the Corvette. 2.0 was 2014-2015, and 2.5 was 2016-2019. Again, that's hardware. The easiest way to tell which hardware you have is to stick a flashlight up above your hood release under the dash and read the text off the label on the module.

Finding the software version depends on whether you're on 2.0 hardware, or 2.5.

For both hardware types, go into the hidden menu you mentioned.

On 2.0 hardware, look for a field that says "Buildversion_label_NOR". It'll be something like GMG2_12.6N146.3 The software version is 12.6N146.3. 2.0 hardware will have either 12 or 14 software.

On 2.5 hardware look for a field that says "Buildversion_custverstring". It'll be something like 23.03.2016/5//GMG3G_LINUX_16.1B027. The software version is 16.1B027. 2.5 hardware will have software starting with 15, 16 or 17.

Don't sweat it if you don't have the latest version. You can't load 2.5 software on 2.0 hardware at all, and some of the 2.5 hardware modules can't be upgraded past certain versions.

You can't update it without GMs programming tools or sending the module off to a specialist shop.

If you want to add Android Auto and Carplay to a 14-15 car, you'll need to replace the hardware. There's quite a few threads on that topic.

Many thanks Jeff, The reason I asked is that I have an intermittent black screen that might be cured by an update as described in the TSB PI1126. I took it to a dealer and they said that they did the update however the problem remains. I had looked at what I thought was the software version, it was ...12.6N106.1. After the update is was still 12.6N106.1. So I guess that the update was not done (correctly)--dealership insists that it was done successfully. I'll try another dealership.

Thanks again

I can't find the exact text of that PI right now, but it probably has to do with getting you up to 12.6N146.3. There is a version 14, but I'm not even sure it's for North American cars. Anyway, the update procedure for both 2.0 and 2.5 HMI modules is the same.

Load the software via USB drive.
Calibrate the module using GM's Service Programming software. That sets up all the options that are specific to Corvette.

I'm guessing the dealer you took it to only did that second part. The USB step is a relatively new thing for them. Most GM programming over the last ~15 years only involved the SPS calibration step.

If you or anyone else finds a USB update file floating around on the internet, do not load it. Besides the risks of loading unknown files from the internet, you module will be useless without that second step. The only thing you'll get is a black screen that says "calibrate module".

Thank you for the information sir, you appear to know quite a bit about this topic! I am personally determined to get the Android Auto update on my 2016 WITHOUT paying the dealer over 200 bucks!!!
Please correct me if I'm wrong- After some reading it appears that you can access the programming software (VIN specific) for $40 at acdelcotds.com
Equipped with a laptop (with tech2win or GDS), MDI, and the $40 subscription would it be possible to do the update on my own?
And if someone does have a USB update file please share it for the love of God!

AC Delco SPS subscription + MDI (or MDI2, or VXDiag or Mongoose) + decent laptop = programming capability. You can download the USB update and do the reflashing step afterward.

GDS2 is a separate subscription, but you don't need it to do what you're looking for.

Nice! Thanks for the prompt response, that actually sounds doable. I think I can borrow a MDI from my buddy and give this a shot. I'll post an update afterwards. Thanks again.
