Do I need to reprogram my car after installing a battery? That is what the stealership said, at a cost of 110 dollars. I have already disconencted it and hooked it back up looking for a date code and no issues outside of indexing windows and top. Are they trying to rip me off? I am going to change it myself anyway and do not want to miss anything. 2014 Z51 3LT auto convertible.
Just re index the windows, & you are ready to go, in some cases when you first start the car, the exterior temp sensor may not read, a short drive & restart my be necessary to bring temp back on screen.
This is what I thought. Thanks to all. I just bought this car June 29 and still learning the newer cars. Rather be safe and somebody call me a dufus than do something harmful.
Dyver. There are some great writeups in the forum for DYI. JerryU did one. The two most common mistakes are ripping the trunk carpet and not firmly making all the connections. You'll see what I mean when you look at all the bits connected to the battery.

No need to have the dealer reprogram anything at a cost of $110.
BMW has required this for years as part of their Intelligent Battery System. Based on age if the battery, the PCM adjusts the level of charge provided. Less charge equals less drag from the alternator equals better fuel economy.
The downside of not programming is shorter battery life from over-charging a new battery. How much has been the subject of much debate.
Is it needed on a Vette? Doesn’t hurt, the dealer is just reading the book, not necessarily trying to rip you off. Having said that, I’ve never done it with my BMWs and still got 5+ years on the couple I did it with.
Edit: So I glanced at my 2019 Owner's Manual and other than the usual "take it to a dealer so they can diagnose it" language, there's no mention of the need for re-programming. As such....the dealer is trying to lighten your wallet for no reason. As them to show you the requirement.
As an aside, all the Owner's Manuals are available online from Chevy for free download.
