Just got an answer from Damian at aFe:

Quote: " Our filters are tested according to ISO 5011 Standard using the allowable test dust per ISO 12103-A4 (ISO Coarse). The A4 Coarse test dust has particles that range from 0.97 – 352 microns of various concentrations. The ISO efficiency test shows the percentage of dust mixture prevented from passing through the filter media. The following efficiency test results were obtained at an independent lab: PRO 5R media has an efficiency of 98.6%, PRO DRY S has a 99.2% efficiency, PRO 10R has a 99.59% efficiency, and PRO-GUARD7 has 99.7% efficiency."

Whenever I’m curious if a particular part is worth the money, I look at Hennessy’s 500 and 600 hp C7 Stingray and Grand Sport buildups. Here’s what they use...

• High-flow air filter element (replaces the factory air filter in the airbox)”

NO after market cold air intake used. That speaks volumes to me about cold air intakes. The stock air box isn’t the source of restriction on the 1LT engine, it’s the stock filter.

Checkout the details of Hennessy’s 600 hp build below...

HPE600 Naturally Aspirated Engine Upgrade

Available for the 2014 – 2019 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray.
The HPE600 engine upgrade is compatible with both the factory automatic and manual transmissions.

Power:
• 605 bhp @ 6,500 rpm *
• 542 lb-ft torque @ 4,200 rpm *

Performance:
• 0-60 mph: 3.5 sec.
• 1/4 mile: 11.5 sec. @ 125 mph
• Top speed: 193 mph (estimated)

Includes:

• CNC Ported Cylinder Heads ports- Competition valve job, extensive flow testing, chambers milled to desired cc.
• Lightweight hollow stem intake valves, exhaust valves.
• Extreme duty dual valve springs.
• Titanium retainers, machined locators & locks, GM valve seals.
• Chamber volumes measures & adjusted for compression.
• CNC work hand blended into valve job, spring pressures measured & adjusted for camshaft.
• HPE hydraulic roller camshaft upgrade.
• Hydraulic lifter upgrade.
• Extreme duty pushrod upgrade.
• 1.75-inch stainless steel long-tube headers.
• Stainless steel mid-pipe exhaust upgrade.
• High-flow catalytic converters.
• HPE engine management upgrade & chassis dyno calibration (6,700 rpm rev limiter).
• High-flow air filter element (replaces the factory air filter in the airbox).
• Professional installation
• All necessary gaskets & fluids.
• Chassis dyno testing. You’ll receive a before & after dyno graph report showing power and torque measured at the rear wheels.
• Road testing (up to 100 miles).
• Hennessey exterior badge (rear).
• HPE600 Powered by Hennessey badges (side & rear).
• Hennessey HPE600 serial numbered plaque signed by John Hennessey (interior).
• Hennessey HPE600 serial numbered plaque signed by the HPE technician who builds you car (engine bay).
• Powered by Hennessey premium floor mats.
• Serial numbered Certificate of Authenticity personally signed by John Hennessey.
• Free lifetime membership in the official Hennessey Vehicle Registry (HVR).
• 3 Year / 36,000 mile limited warranty. Contact a Hennessey Performance sales associate for more details.
• Shell V-Power 93 octane gasoline.
• Pennzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic oil & filter change.
Contact us for pricing and turnaround time details.

* Estimated power ratings at the engine. Actual power will be measured at the rear wheels, before and after the upgrades are installed and tuned. Rear wheel horsepower and torque figures are approximately 15-20% lower than the factory published power figures which are measured at the crankshaft on an engine dyno.

Hmmmmm so if I am reading this right , a 600 hp Hennessy running 11.5 quarter mile times ...

My stock LT 1 with a 300 dollar Vararam running a traction limited 11.8 - 11.9 all day long , not so sure I would use that as an example lol lol ....

Below is with a 3,500 DA .95 degree temps on factory run flats ....

11.8&9s with just the Vararam? That’s amazing!
That Vararam CAI comes with a GREEN Brand Performance high flow air filter. I wonder how much of your/Vararam’s performance gains come from the high flow air filter and not their CAI box and tube?

I went with the Vararam today...got a nice promo discount that I found here on our forum...purchased it for $299.00 with the advertised promo code through our forum at Southern Auto Parts...no shipping or tax to my state of Georgia...couldn't pass this "legit" deal up! Keep you all posted on results...and thanks again for all of your input!

Good Luck , let me know if you need help installing it as we are close ...

Do not unplug the MASS AIRFLOW sensor while the battery is connected or you will pop a code on first start . I was able to just unscrew mine and transfer without unplugging it

Also run the rpms up slowly so the fuel trims adjust , the 1st time you go flat out you might get a CEL for lean , just clear the code as you will be fine after the trims adjust after the first run up

Enjoy the sound that you engine will now make as it sounds awesome

I love my VARARAM

I ordered the Vararam kit for $299. Hope I notice a difference! This will pop the GS' cherry, as far as mods. It's a slippery slope from here, I know...

The main gain with the Vararam is through the tubing. Less restrictive and a nice design. I actually had my painted so it blends in with the rest as the dull black plastic just looked cheap to me. The sound it makes when WOT is nice. I have put a towel over the hood gap right above where the air box is and sure enough, when reving the motor, the towel begins to suck in, so it definitely is drawing in outside air. They have a wonderful reputation. I bought mine used and they didn't hesitate to send me an update air lid and foam. When I look at their dyno numbers and the price, it's better than than competition.

BTW i did not unhook the battery and got no codes at all.

Unless you were to run Dyno runs, 0-60 runs and 1/4 runs with just the higher flow air filter, then just the box and then just the tube back to back there’s no way of knowing where the gains come from. It could come just from the filter.

Agreed , I did my runs and logs baseline stock then added the Vararam because it would be impossible to check the tube. What I can tell you ... once the fuel trims adjust there is a gain backed by a fist full of timing slips and logs from before and after

Wouldn’t it suck in water onto the air filter from there too?

Plumber , I had the same concern , even traded emails with Vararam about it , I have had mine on a long time and have driven in some torential downpours that really had me worried and never has it sucked in any water , i use a pressure washer to wash the car , not sure how but water does not enter the box

As opposed to the stock setup. The stock tube isnt smooth, which means the air doesnt flow smoothly. It's like dirty air flowing through the tube. If you remove the stock rippled tube, air flow is smoother and helps better with HP gains.

And never had issues with water. Dont drive in the rain but have pressure washed many times and no problem. I believe the water falls on the fender rails and doesnt go straight into the filter.
