My experience adding Android Auto to my 2014
I've read all of the threads regarding upgrading 2014s and 2015s to be Apple Carplay and Android Auto capable. Mobile Video Integration (MVI) Inc is regarded as the best company to work with for this. They charge $1200 for a complete upgrade kit, including the HMI module, the radio module, the USB module, and a GPS antenna. All of the parts included in the kit are brand new, I should point out. That's where a large part of the cost of the kit comes from, they don't use junkyard modules. The kit is comprehensive, but I didn't want to spend anywhere near that much. I asked MVI if they could VIN code updated modules that I send them, and they said that they could do it for $250 + s/h, which worked out to $286. I found suitable modules on eBay and shipped them off to MVI. After a week or so, I got them back. I installed the modules over the weekend, and Android Auto works perfectly. As expected, I can't adjust the drive settings in the infotainment system anymore, but my drive mode selection **** still works to adjust the exhaust, steering, and magnetic ride. I spent a little over $250 on the modules, so all in, I spent less than $550. I'm very happy with the end result.
As a cool little bonus, the radio module that I got was so new (from a 2019) that it still has a valid XM radio subscription.
