Anyone familiar with this part and what it's for? Is it an after market add on?

Sorry I don't have pics I was just asking the question. I'm new to this site so maybe I've inquired in the wrong section.

I'm confused. What part are you referring to? No pics and no description so not sure how to answer

Did you mean AWE? X pipe or axle back?

Or maybe AFE? Cold air intake?

My apologies everyone.......the correct description of the part is AFM and it's function as I understand is to prevent the 'vette from shifting into economy mode. Anyone familiar with it? if so, thoughts? I hear that economy mode can potentially cause complications over time mechanically.

I think you mean a Range AFM disabler. Plugs into the OBD2 port and keep the car out of 4cylinder mode.

It does sound like you are talking about the Range AFM device. Good product for preventing the car from going in and out of 4 cylinder mode.

Would you rate this a necessary purchase, or just a handy add on to have? Also.......could this effect the warranty where the power train and transmission are concerned given that it basically alters something the car was designed to do regarding the modes?

I can't really say anything as per the warranty. It is removable though so I do not believe it would affect it. I do not have one on the vette, as I will be tuning the car soon, but I did use one on my previous Camaro. It was a nice add-on. I used it on there for about 6 months before I ended up adding headers and tuning the car.

I installed one in my 19 GS A8 right after I bought it in October of 2018 and I would not be without it. My car has been in for two service visits. I unplug the Range and put it in the console and then plug it back in when I pick the car up. It does not leave any electronic fingerprint, does not throw any codes and the engine will not go into 4 cylinder mode. You can't go wrong with it.
