Default 2017 engine temperature

My 2017 Z51 M7 has about 20,00 miles. I have noticed in the last week that the engine temperature seems to be too low. It is a little over half way between 100 and 220 (it used to be around 220 if I remember correctly). Sometimes, even after I have driven for quite a while (more than 15 minutes), the indicator on the tach comes on for a while as it believes the car is still too cool to go over 5500 RPM.

What would cause the engine to be running too cool?

Thanks.

What’s the actual temp? Iirc, the red line moves to 6500 at 163f if the coolant isn’t getting above that, you have a problem. A sticking open tstat would d that in cooler temps.

Change your instrument panel display to the Tour Mode by using the switches on the steering wheel and then read the exact temperature on the digital read out. The analog gauge in the lower right corner doesn't have the resolution to read the actual temperature.

Thanks. The actual temperature reading in tour mode varies between 165-180.

Sounds like a thermostat that's stuck open.

Took it in to the dealer. They had to replace the Water pump outlet assembly.
The best part is they said it is covered under the drive train warranty, even though my 36 month warranty has expired.

That's where the thermostat is located. They sell the housing and the thermostat as an assembly. Most likely your thermostat was suck partially open. There are some alignment tabs in the housing which if broken could jam the thermostat.
