Hi everyone. I bought a new c7 Stingray 2016 in December of that year. Had a question about the battery option that year because my car did not have that. I goggled for information and was guided to the Corvette Forum. Learned it was a battery tender and after reading several threads bought a CTEC 4.3. I have been lurking in the Forum ever since. Found out about many things: Fuel filler flap, fob life, battery life, Range device and more. Love my Vette and it has been the best car I have ever owned! I now have a problem to solve that has been with the car since day one. Since my BB was coming to the end, last month I decided to deal with it. The car has always had a metallic clunking noise, left front ahead of driver when passing over a rough washboard surface at 5 to 10 mph. I live on a gravel road and drive slow to minimize dust. I didn't take it in early on because I know service writers hate tracking down rattles. In retrospect from my current dealer interactions I know I would have hated the car from the start and never would have felt comfortable owning it. I started with the service department mid November. 3 trips to dealer, Dealers chassis ears (?) indicated shock absorber problem. Waited for shocks but not the answer. Service writer is a good guy and tries and agrees it is not acceptable. He contacted a Corvette technical adviser after the Thanksgiving holiday and he recommended replacing the motor mounts. That was done this week and picked up the car. No improvement. Now he says he drove a 2019 Vette over same road and it did the same. I am not buying that story. After 3 service visits, the last with a 10 day loss of use, I am not happy. I have never seen this problem mentioned on the Forum among the many others I have read about. Has anyone else experienced this noise from under the hood?
Check the left front lower control arm near the end of the spring to see if there is any rubbing there. You might see a rubbed spot on the upper surface of the control arm where the spring is mounted. Depending on how the lower control arm cams are adjusted you could get some rubbing in this area if they are rotated to push the lca outward.
The Corvette mechanic at the dealership where I have the car serviced discovered this after I had a track alignment performed and suddenly developed a rattle. Could also happen on the passenger side.
I'll keep that in mind if I get an alignment. However since the service writer did not return my call I am thinking he will stand by his story about a 2019 having the same sound. They probably only get so much reimbursement for investigation for warranty work.
