Is the engine removed from the top or out the bottom? Mine has a knock coming from the number 8 cylinder the dealer says it takes 20 hours to tear down the engine to fine what’s causing the knock. Does this sound right? 2014 Coupe LT1

sucks that you got a knock
Don't forget to weight the replace cost against the new LT 1 cost , or you can buy a complete dropout low mileage for 5 grand
Hate it for you this c7 is not so easy to the c5 and c6 but 20 hr is crazy that is if you have done it a number of time. OP please remember this if you jack the car up in the air on a 2 post jack remember to put a GOOD JACK under the rear end to keep the car up on the jack it will be safer with it.. Robert
Finally got an answer to the knock problem. The high pressure fuel pump leaked fuel in to the crank case and mixed with the oil . Because of its location over the #8 cylinder it was the first to go and cause the knock. The dealer I took it to is doing the engine swap. Thank goodness for the extended warranty I purchased with the car!

Did you have any work done to the car previously? I wonder if the pump went bad and leaked or if the lines weren't tightened properly. That warranty paid for itself.
I only had the car for about 2 months before the problem started. No, I hadn’t done any work prior to this happened. Maybe that’s why the previous owner traded it in?
I agree ANT is great one helpful guy for sure.. Robert
Yes ANT is a good guy and has some great writeups. Coming out the top isn't bad I just pulled my LT4 a few days ago by myself. I have a lift so that helps a lot. Trick is removing the sway bar bolts pulling it out some, then remove the passenger side steering rack bracket and you can pry and wedge the steering rack back enough to clear the crank pulley. Overall not too hard. I personally would pull the heads before yanking the motor unless you have small hands, because there are two wiring harness bolts that for some stupid *** reason GM decided to mount to the rear of the heads and they are WAY UP IN THERE. I pulled my heads, was able to put a towel under my heads to block to prevent damage, then I could slide the heads out from the firewall enough to easily get a socket wrench or ratcheting wrench back there. There are also two ground strap bolts on the back of the heads, but easier to get to. Keep in mind with the heads and intake off you can also get to the top bellhousing bolts much easier as well. Just my .02..
For an actual answer, you can see that it's not actually the whole engine that blows out, it's just the heads and what looks like a couple of turbos.
My best educated guess is they were running way to much boost and the pressure was simply too much and blew the heads and the entire intake assembly off the top of the engine block.
Could have also been caused by some other catastrophic engine failure and the engine stopped spinning, but the turbos were still spooling, so the pressure had to go somewhere.
