Default Soler PTB with A8 question

I have the Soler PTB on my 2017 GS A8. When I take off it is difficult to do it smoothly. It is almost like a surge. Once moving the acceleration is smooth. When traveling on the highway at a steady speed or on cruise it feels like the car is surging. Is this normal for others or is it specific to the PTB? Mike felt it was normal.

Thoughts?

Hi, Michael. I know this one wasn't directed to us as you seem to be looking for opinions other than yours or ours. Which is a very good idea. I hope we can figure out what exactly is going on with the help of others.

Just wanted to add a note so the definition of surging will not be the cause of confusion.

Surging: Unwanted changes/fluctuations in rpm without driver demanding them, mainly in under conditions where constant speed/rpm's are expected.

My understanding from you is that this is not what is happening. Regardless, once again, we'll make it up to you until it responds exactly as you envisioned it would.

Thanks,

Did you get new or trade in your OEM?

New. I'm one of the early adopters, so mine doesn't even have any of the later enhancements.

Default Tc,

Just got my Solar throttle controller yesterday ,haven't yet installed it but Ithis might seem crazy, but of ALL the mods I've purchased for my different cars the packaging is probably the nicest I've seen, looks like a fine piece of jewelry! Cant wait to for grin I'm sure I'll be wearing !!!!

I traded in my OEM one for a reworked one and have not had any surging (2017 A8 GS).

2019 Grand Sport, A8. Purchased a new TB from Soler, it functions perfectly with no surge or stumble. Added the TC and still learning how the settings affect throttle response.

Dumb question, but have you checked your plug wire connections at both ends? I had a weird stumble on my C6 that appeared out of nowhere one day. Found a plug wire not fully seated on the injector.

I will check but it runs fine except for take off and cruising at a set speed.

I would also double check to make sure your intake tube clamps (on the TB and the air intake side) are still snug. On my old C7 after installing the Soler TB I had some wired shudder/hesitation develop on acceleration from a stop for a short period and it was just because one of my clamps had come loose and the air intake tube basically had come loose.

As previously stated, make sure your vacuum lines are all in tact, intake boot fully on and clamped ect.
Also, may disconnect the battery to reset the cars learning adaptives
I just ordered one today for a Z06.

I checked everything and disconnected the battery overnight. Did the relearn this morning and have 3 drive cycles on it. So far I have not noticed the surging so maybe this will do it. Mike, who has been great, didn’t think it was necessary since I had driven so many cycles. But so far I can take off smoothly which is great!

Mike, that is great. Keep us posted on the progress, hopefully, the reset took care of it for good. If so, we'd recommend you keep this configuration as this is optimum in terms of performance and what everybody else w/ your engine and transmission is using.

After driving the car all weekend it has no issues and runs great. The complete relearn did the trick. Mike, I will send back the replacement you sent me. Thank you for the great customer service!

I agree that the customer service offered by Mike is absolutely top notch. I had a few questions before purchasing a Soler PTB for my m7 z51 and he answered them all very quickly and had data to back up his claims.

I used the overnight battery disconnect method, followed the instructions completely, and have had no issues whatsoever. Not the first surge or anything. Great product, great customer service, doesn't get any better than that!

Thanks, Michael. Seems like the ECM/TCM needed a reset. Glad everything turned out well.

Would it be worth getting the Soler TB for a C7 GS with A8 if the car already has a ported TB installed? I’m thinking I am at the point of diminishing returns.

I’m also thinking about trying the Soler TC for fun. Anyone with an LT1 care to comment?

Will Soler get into porting intake manifolds?

Has anyone ever noticed that their car has ever continued to accelerate for a split second after letting off the gas peddle? I swear this has happened to me a few times. What would cause this?

Hi, Scuds. Yes, so far that is the opinion of those who have switched to ours. There are several comparisons here at CF.

Too busy with TB's and TC's for now. No manifolds on the horizon, but who knows?

Thanks,
