I am very interested in running some ARH midlength catted headers on my '17 GS. I know these are not supposed to require a tune or throw a CEL(im worried about voiding my warranty). I have also read in other posts that running a corsa or borla catless xpipe in addition to the catted headers will still not throw a CEL or require a tune.
Would deleting the factory mufflers in addition to the catless corsa xpipe and catted mid length headers, throw a CEL or require a tune? Im thinking not because there are no O2 sensors past the first set of Cats but I wanted to ask before I splurged on the headers
Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you for your time!
Mid lengths with cats will not throw a code nor need a tune. Your O2's do not move further back.
Cat-less X pipe will also not throw a CEL. No reason a muffler delete would either... as long as your AFM and NPP (if applicable) are still plugged in.
i currently work at a very well known speed shop in Houston. We have built several high hp lt1/lt4, lsa etc cars. Yes mid/shortys are a waste of money and time! I just might know what I’m talking about.
The only advantage of a mid length header that I know of is a louder exhaust. A friend installed them on his GS and the car is definitely louder vs stock manifold.
I would wait for long tubes. They come with a complete Xpipe and you can save money by just purchasing an axleback exhaust to go with it instead of a full catback. Borla doesn't even sell a full Xpipe anymore.
Actually, I would run just the long tubes first and see if you like the new sound before buying an exhaust system. These cars sound great with the stock mufflers and a set of long tubes.
As far as voiding your warranty goes a set of headers should not void your warranty. If you are dealing with a dealer that is telling you otherwise I would take my business elsewhere. We have dealers by us that do work for us on customer cars with heavy bolt ons all the time. We've brought in Z06s with ported blowers and interchiller kits before pushing around 700rwhp without issue.
I don't think they'd throw a code but I agree if you're doing it for hp you're probably wasting your time. I added Hooker shorty headers and the Akrapovic slip ons and dropped 22lbs with the headers and over 19 on the exhaust. I do a lot of track days and for me it is well worth it for the weight loss. In all honesty though I went with the Akra's for the sound as much as anything. It's a sweet sounding exhaust system.
