I'm trying to find out what level of detail the vehicle diagnostics will tell a service technician. Specifically, this last Saturday I was stopped at a left turn land, car in neutral (M7), and I had a guy in a Ford Expedition about 10 to 15 feet in front of me back up into me. He hit hard enough to run up onto the hood, pulled the front of the hood up an inch or two (remember it opens in the front) and push the back part where it latches down by an inch or so. I'm sure it will cost several thousand dollars to repair (insurance), probably not enough that they would total the car so I could put in an order for a C8.
My question is whether the vehicle diagnostics would have captured the impact, along with relevant information (speed, gear, etc). I would like this in case the guy changes his story and says I rear ended him. I do not have the performance data recorder package, but I know the vehicle diagnostics reports I get once a month tell me how I am driving, like how often I brake hard, accelerate, etc, so I would think the diagnostics would also show I was not moving.
Lots of accidents like that where people back into others and then claim they were rear ended. If you have witnesses you're probably going to need them.
Yeah, no police report. In many cases here in SoCal, they don't bother much for minor accidents like this if there is no injury
They will come eventually but accidents with injuries are prioritized. When you make the call just say there has been an injury. Maybe you were picking your nose when they backed into you and you injured your nose. Even low speed impacts can cause injury if a person is sitting just right. They have had people killed in parking lot accidents that occurred at speeds less than 10 mph.

There is no diagnostic info stored in the car for this type of accident. Data is stored only if the airbags are triggered.
My guess is $4000 to $6000 of damage.

The black box (event data recorders or EDR) would have that kind of info but that's not so easy to get data from. Costs a lot of money to get data from those as special/expensive tools are required. Might be hacks out there though, search around.
Yes, correct, good clarification. I was mostly saying that it was the only type of device that would have the type of data the OP was asking for. The OP didn't state if they did or did not deploy, doesn't look like they did in the pics of course. Most of the conversations seem to be about the diagnostic systems but I believe that the EDR is technically a different system that captures / collects that data and requires different tools to extract that data then a normal tech tool.
