Default Underbody holes/openings...

I’ve been trying to figure out what these holes are for a while. Tried google, looked in the forums, even reversed image search it.

But no explanations to what these holes are for. I’m guessing the left side feeds the air box.

Does anyone know their purpose? Thx ...

Those are blocked off if you have a car with the Stage 2 or 3 front splitter. The undertray that goes with the splitter covers that complete area.

Thx for the reply. But a quick search, shows that stage 2. (Pretty sure stage 3 might be the same.) Only covers the 2 bigger holes.

On the 1st pic. You can see that the undertray for stage 2 and 3, still leaves a gap.

And on the other 2 pics. You can see the smaller outer holes.

For Z06s with the secondary radiator those also help exhaust the air that passes through. That wasn’t designed until after the overheating problems needed a fix though so not their initially designed use.

The two inboard holes went away on 2015+ cars and in their spot some slight tunneling was added to the undertray. Both my '15 z51 and my '15 Z06 don't have them. the one on the passenger side is the inlet to your air filter! That's how the engine breathes in. On cars with horizontal auxiliary coolers, they are how the coolers exhaust air.

Without the aux cooler, the only reasons I think the driver side hole is there for is:
Symmetry
A way for the sound of the horn to escape (it's right above the hole)
Cooling for the headlight heat sink???

I'm fishing now

thx for the reply. I learned something new today.

I did noticed that wide body cars had some kind of tunneling that directed air to the brakes. And I thought about buying that part. But unfortunately it’s not a single piece that gets attached. I would have to replace both front fender liners.

fender liners are the same, essentially for what you're asking. Splitter is what matters. To get the splitter undertray you need a stage 2/3 splitter.

That tunneling doesn't do as much for the brakes as the ducting in the front bumper and the extra Z07 package lower control arm brake ducts. (Google that).

Unfortunately I can’t. The car has the ACS front splitter. And I’m not sure if I can install the factory undertray at all. If I can, it won’t have a complete seal. Since it’s not the same shape.

the acs undertray takes over the factory undertray. I wouldn't worry about it! What does it look like underneath your own car?

Not my car. But it looks exactly like this.

it also has to opening on top center of the splitter. “For fuel efficiency and to let air go to the rear brakes.”

Red car pics are mine.

Oh that's an odd splitter.... I bet the gap is actually to keep the splitter from deforming excessively at high speed due to not having undertray for support.

Can't do much above that style splitter. Won't hurt as is.

The holes serve two purposes. Vent hot air and allows you to open the drain plug on the Intercooler reservoir on the left side(passenger side). The second reason may just be luck on GM's part.
