Finally got weather good enough to take the 2016 Corvette Stingray out for a little cruise in 70 degree weather. My car is just a base model Stingray LT! with A8 transmission, did put a Range device on it after reading posts on this forum. This was not my first choice of cars, I missed a 2015 Z06 with 4k miles on it in my area by one day, that being said, after driving this car was surprised at how much power it had. Being an old street and drag racer, have a pretty good idea on how fast cars are. I have always had fast cars, my last car was a Viper after having Corvette's and Chevelle's for years, this car feels like a car that would run in the 11's on quarter mile, makes me wonder if you could actually open up and enjoy the power of a Z06 without possibly losing control. Has anyone timed these base model cars in quarter mile and what will they run? Was sick about missing out on the Z06 but after driving this car, may not miss the extra HP and it might just be wasted because I do not track my cars. Any thoughts? Thanks

there definitely is something to be said about the sweet spot in power for daily driving. The thing I love about the z51 or gs is that you can literally lay all the power down on the street and still be able to control it....granted it’s at the edge for some drivers and most will not come close to using all the powe.
all that said i would love a z06 but I love my z51 2017....
Thanks for the info, bought a good car CPO with low miles but have been looking at it and was kind of wishing I had bought a Z06 and have been looking for one in the Southeast for sale, but after driving this car, I think it has all the power and more that I will ever need or use and guess the extra 20k for a Z06 would have just been wasted money and HP that I could never use on the street. Would have been nice though but think I have enough car for my grandson, wife and I to enjoy and is very driveable.
My wife has a 2015 Mustang GT 6 speed. I came from a cobra replica w/ a 408Windsor. What I really notice w/ my 2019 Stingray is that 2nd gets me to just over 80mph. The cobra was about 60 and the Mustang is 65 in 2nd. So what this means is there are a lot less opportunities to go to redline in 2nd in the Stingray. It is the fastest of the 3 cars but there is something I really enjoy about going to redline and I can't do it as often now.
"...just a base model Stingray LT!..." In my opinion there is no reason for anyone to deride the base Vette (which I always buy by choice), if street use is it's purpose in life. I, too, have/have had/have driven/have raced MUCH more powerful cars than the St'ray or the Z06 on the street and on the Salt. Indeed, for racing higher power is often essential... but, just not needed everyday by most, apart from bench-racing. Certainly, for some it is downright dangerous for themselves and others. DRIVE on and ENJOY... I do!
The stock LT1 motor is more than enough for a street car. It has a super flat torque curve, and good midrange power. I too, was surprised how fast my A8 Stingray was when I took delivery. I also have a 700hp LPE twin turbo C5, and it is just a little too fast for the street. Fun, but things get scary real fast.
Been away a couple of days, all of your comments are correct, got the car out yesterday again and pushed it around a time or two, even though I still want a Z06, this car for a street car that will never be tracked has all the power and speed you would ever need. Any more power would probably just be wasted unless you were on a track, heck, I can't even open this car wide open for more than a couple of seconds, they say the A8 goes from 0 to 60 in like 3.7 seconds, must go from 40 to 100 much quicker, can barely slow down enough to keep from getting caught by radar. Guess it's like a boat, jet ski or anything else, if you got a 70 mph jet ski, you want one that will do 80, never satisfied. Also had second thoughts about the A8 over a manual transmission, always like the feeling or shifting gears but sure is nice just letting the transmission do all the work and very good in traffic, have operated in manual mode a few times but think you really get more power out of it just putting it in D and let it do it's thing.
Regarding Stingray performance, I've got a factory stock 2016 Stingray Z51 A8. Data for that car follows.
- Best Quarter Mile run - 11.76 @ 118 MPH (Bradenton, Florida Track - Density Altitude 1100'). I think 11.50's @ 120 MPH are possible with negative DA.
- Best Standing Half Mile run - 145.8 MPH (South Florida 1/2 Mile Shootout)

Good times, I figured on a good day if it hooked up well, feels like a sub 12 second car. Wish I had one of these back in the late 60's an 70's when we were all street and drag racing all of the big block Chevelle's, Camaro's, Z28's and the Mopar's and Fords, could have ran title for title and opened up a car lot with all the cars you could have won. Guess everything is fast in today's cars, guess we just thought we were fast back them.

Cars are so fast now. My cousin bought a new Audi RS3, and damn is that 4 door fast. 3.5 seconds to 60. DCT transmission. It’s a good time to be a car nut. Going to get the twin turbo C5 out today, and scare myself!
Heck yea they were fast wining out these older fast cars the sound and vibration all added to the drama .
You could take my stingray 350 HP wine it out in all gears and get fired up feels like heart breaking sound and old school fast .
They felt fast and were compared to the norm of the times
