On the driver’s side behind the fender at the back, there is a tank that has a “sending unit?” And another unit plunged into it. There is a “filler?” tube coming up by the brake master cylinder from this tank. My filler tube was broken off in a wreck. Can someone tell me what this large tank is.

Are you talking about the "shiny tank thing" in front of the brake reservoir? It is an auxiliary vacuum pump that will run if there is not enough manifold vacuum to operate the power brakes or HVAC controls.
