Default Engine Start Button blinking red

About 20 miles into a drive, I started hearing a low volume chime. It was like a 3 note soft chime. Repeated about a minute apart. No messages anywhere, no warning lights, all gauges in normal range. I've heard this chime a few times before, it stopped without any action on my part. This time I noticed the entire start button was illuminated in a light red and blinking at a slow rate. I was driving, nothing had changed. I also noted the A/C had shut off. Turned it on, no issues. I have searched the owners and infotainment manuals, can't find anything. I found a 2011 post here, but that was related to entry/exit settings and behavior.

I'll get a photo next time. Anyone seen this or heard the mysterious chime?

Well, I just made a stab at this. Since I don't know what year your car is, I see you joined in 2018, so I used the 2018 Owner's manual.

I searched through the OM for the word "red". There are 401 instances where the letters "red" can be found, and only 5 instances where the letters "red" are found as a word. Words like stored occurred, shared, and actually 396 times in the OM that the letters "red" are printed. NONE of the times that the color "red" was being used did it refer to the start/stop button.

Sorry, I tried!

Thanks! I'll call the dealer today, see if that helps. It's a 2019 LT2 Z51 BTW.

Default Start Button blinking red update

Took it out today to attempt repeat. No luck. Outside temp the same, same circuit driven. Called the service department, service manager chatted with his techs, never heard of it. Got an appointment next Wednesday to run diagnostics. BTW - I get a monthly diagnostic report, just had one on 5/20. I searched the site looking for a way to initiate a fresh report. No luck.

So, no capture yet.

Normal modes. When it goes red, the lettering lights red and the whole button appears to be back-lit in red.

There are only three LEDs in the switch: red = backlight, amber = accessory, green = start. The backlight is controlled by the BCM along with a whole slew of other backlights, so if the start switch was flashing red a) the BCM may be getting a varying brightness command and b) many other backlights should be flashing as well.

Absolutely nuts! Someone at GM should be accessible to the dealer and be told, replying, "Oh yeah, that's blah, blah, blah."

There should not be such mysteries even in fully electronically controlled systems! Best of luck and PLEASE let us know what's going on if/when you find out.

Btw, I say "if" because there are no shortage of incidences that happen once or twice and disappear forever... guess how I know, on both my C5 and my C7.

That's a thought. Wonder how I can simulate. A lead box I can put the FOB in while driving?

Start button only one flashing. Then there is the mysterious chime and A,C going off. Also surprised dealer had no ideas. Time to call a few more dealers.

Thanks, Jeff

If you are referring to the fob, no lead is required. It's not radioactive. Just use a couple of tin cans that form a complete enclosure.

The start button cannot be the only one flashing. That's not electrically possible.
