Default MAF Airflow Sensor

I was working under the hood and disconnected the mass airflow sensor to gain access to the hoses. I forgot to hook the connector back in and started the car. I immediately plugged the connector back in but now the car has a check engine light and a reduced power display on the DIC.

Will this go away after a number of start cycles or does it need to be reset with a code reader or by some other means like disconnecting the battery?

Drive the car. It'll reset the code and turn off the SES light.

It'll store the code but the light will go off.

Or pull the fuse for the ECM for ten minutes or so.

If you have an emissions check in the near future just drive the car. Pulling the fuse will reset the monitors and could delay passing of the emissions test. I did the same thing with my car about a month ago when changing the air filter and after I reconnected the MAF the problem went away with the next engine start. If you still have the problem after reconnecting the MAF I would remove the connector again and use some Electrical Contact Cleaner (available at most auto parts stores) to clean the contacts on both sides of the connection. Then very carefully reconnect the MAF making sure connector seats properly (you should hear the latch click when it closes and that indicates the connector is fully inserted in it's mate) and the red locking tab is closed properly.

The CEL should go off once the problem is resolved. No need to pull fuses.

Some crazy stuff happened when I initially re-plugged the connector. The fan came on full boogie like the car was trying to become airborne. The car also went into reduced power mode. I parked it for a few minutes and restarted. Everything went back to normal except the CEL is still on. The car is back to full power. If the CEL doesn't turn off after a few days I'll reset it by pulling the fuse.

I also got a message from On Star to immediately take the car to the dealer. Since I don't subscribe to On Star I assume the dealer pays to get the notifications as in the notification was the dealers address and phone number.
