My 2019 GS is projecting oil change intervals of about 1,700 miles which strikes me as excessive considering how easily the car is being driven during the pandemic. My 2011 M6 GS was driven the same way as my new GS and it always went at least 5,000 miles between changes. Is this normal for a C7 GS?

Miles means something in the calculation for the oil change. The big item is TIME. The car will tell you to change the oil in 365 dyas whether you drive it 1 mile or 100 miles. So, you store your car for the winter, miles stop but time does not. I get around 7500 miles before I get notified to change my oil. It reads, starts, RPMs, temperature, cold starts, hot starts, and many more items that are included in the oil change calculation. They are all variables for the result. TIME is not a variable. 1 year, change the oil. There are valid reasons for this and you can search on here to find them.

Every year it's going to tell you that it needs changing even if setting in a garage all that time. If you value your warranty, just change it, reset, and drive on.
Given the low mileage most C7 see many will hit that one year time period way before the normal mileage limit. For example in daily driving plus a few track days I got to 7,500 miles last year. However with way less driving this year due to COVID I am due for new oil at only 5,000 miles.
