Wanted to warn people about this. I bought 3 of these wl10290xp filters to use on my LT5 engine. Better filtration, 22psi relief, yada yada...
Upon close inspection of the filter (as is customary for me) i noticed that the epoxy that holds the filter media only covers about 1/2 of the circumference. I then proceeded to open the filter. And sure enough, half of the filter media was not sealed to the metal "floor". 2 out of 3 filters were like this. So be careful.
I have not contacted WIX with this. Now that you mentioned it I probably should. I've only contacted the seller about this and they said to return the filters if I am not satisfied with them.
I contacted WIX and they arranged to pick up the filter from me to do their own testing.
They said that they have not seen this before. I will keep you updated about this. I think it would be unlikely that I got all of the defective filters out there. I think there is a batch of them out.
Also fun fact, the color of the resin from the "good" filter and the 2 "bad" ones is different. Both "bad" filters have a light creme colored resin. The "good" one has reddish resin.
I've had enough issues with WIX throughout the years I flat-out refuse to use them now. Their specs aren't even that great anyway. The 3 oil filters I'll use on my personal vehicles: ACDelco, Mobil 1, or Fram Ultra Synthetic.

They may have seen it before, but the person you actually spoke to versus the person who's actually seen it are not the same. It's possible there was an issue with the resin on a production run. Luckily, the numbers stamped on the end of the cans give them the info to narrow down the date and time the batch in question were in. When they confirm the problem, they'll issue a notice to all their vendors instructing them to stop sale on whatever batch it was and return them to WIX.

Once upon a time WIX oil filters were well thought of. But, who knows who manufactures them where, now?
Some, if not most vendors have a designated contact with WIX. They usually reach out and make WIX aware. The majority of the WIX product that is still being made in the US is still being made in North Carolina.
You are correct. All of NAPA's private label filters are WIX filters.

ACDelco and Mobil 1 don't make filters, they're re-branded like the NAPA filters are. Some of the actual manufacturers even do some back and forth selling, so it's quite possible you're still getting a WIX filter in one of those boxes.
Champion Laboratories makes the Mobil 1 filters, along with Royal Purple and Amsoil. Not sure about the ACDelco though. The new Fram Ultra Synthetic filters have really been impressing me lately as well (I've been running these on my other vehicles).
Spent 30+ years running a small HD trucking business, ran WIX filters exclusively on all my power units. In all that time I never had a mechanical breakdown related to a filter failure whether it was lube, fuel or air related. Having said that I currently use WIX on both my cars, my pickup, two boats, and my children's cars. Use the same filter on my Vette as the one mentioned, checked the three I have in the garage, no sign of any issues, however I did not cut one open since there was no visible faults. I have faith in WIX and will continue using there products.

Not sure that is correct...at least not any more.
I tried calling the phone number shown on the Mobil 1 Oil Filter web page as being the "Oil Filter Hotline". It went to a voice mail which referred me to a second number (919 926 4210) being used while people are working at home because of the China Virus. I dialed that no. and heard an outgoing message saying it was the "Mann-Hummel Product Hotline".
Mann-Hummel, is a world-wide supplier of filter products headquarted in Germany. Mann-Hummel owns Wix.
It's possible that Exxon-Mobil is having its Mobil 1 filters made by Mann-Hummel to Mobil's specs but it, also, just might be that the Mobil 1 M1-113A, which is listed for the '14-'19 LT1/4/5 engines, has the same guts as the Wix WL 10290XP.
I know that, at one time in the past, Champion was making M1 filters but, considering the above, I think that's pretty unlikely at this point.

One other thing to note. I purchased a Wix WL10290XP to compare with an ACDelco PF64. I noticed that the thickness of the plate with the threads is thicker on the ACDelco. Looks like 3 grooves in the threads on the Wix and 4 grooves in the threads of the ACDelco. Not sure that is a problem, but it is a difference.
Since my car is under warranty, I decided to stick with the ACDelco.
