Default Operating Temp Question

I have a 2014 Z51, 3LT. During hot summer months temp runs 195 to 200 degrees. Since its cooler outside, city driving temp has increased to 215-220 degrees. Is this normal? If not any recommendations? I read on forum some guys put a Z06 fan on their 2014's.

Ive experienced that as well. cruising on my z06 used to be around 205/210. now that I added on the gm secondary radiator (M7) my temps are now down to 185/189 while crusing.

220 is not a problem. If you get overheating w/radiator fans not running then a fan (includes fan controller) replacement may be needed. Lots of threads on this.

My 2014 will occasionally (and i mean really rarely... but it still happens randomly) decide to not run the fans. When this happens the car quickly overheats unless on the highway. Restarting the car always fixes it -- and as an engineer, it boggles my mind. This is only a problem on the older model years (2014, 2015), and this is why some upgrade their fan.

Analog or digital gauge? The analog gauge in the 2014 just goes to 220 and sits there... so you need to use the digital gauge for accuracy.

My 2014 runs around 190 to maybe 210 max in hot FL in heavy traffic. I run 215 to 220 on track - you should NOT being seeing such temps on the street.

There are plenty of threads around here on upgrading to the new fan and the aux cooler - but the stock cooling should be enough for a street driven car. Most switch to the new fan because the 2014 fan controllers go bad as @ajcarson11 said.

The bad fan controller is the reason for the switch of the fans. Since the controller and fan are 1 unit (can't switch out the controller only) you need to replace the fan and the good controller comes with it.
