I have a 2016 ZO6/ZO7 I’ve loaned to my son to take on a weekend trip, I had to use a jump box to get it started and when he got about 10 minutes away the power steering stopped working and all kinds of messages came up every time he came to a stop or slowed down. He took it and had a new battery installed and that seems to have solved all the problems except when he got home the tilt steering wheel would only go up and out but not in or down. He tried restarting the car several times but nothing changed. Does anybody have any ideas how to correct or trouble shoot this? No codes or messages being shown on dash....thanks
A bad or low battery is known to cause gremlins. When in doubt, hard boot all of the computer modules. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 min. Don't damage the small black wire attached to the negative battery cable.
You will need to reindex the windows - other settings should be OK.
Codes representing failures in the tilt steering wouldn't show up on the dash. They don't light the check engine light. You notive something isn't working and then use a scanner that car read those codes. An OBD II scanner can't read them.
Yeah I didn’t think it would show up on the dash, I did ask him to see if the place he got the battery from had a scan tool but he had already left. He had to go out tonight to take care of some things before he takes it on his weekend trip so he won’t be able to try and disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes like another person has suggested so that will be in the morning.
I bought the car a couple years ago from a man who lived about 900 miles away so I flew my brother up there and he didn’t experience any problems at all on the way back, it currently has around 12,500 miles on it up from the 9000 it had and I’ve never any issues with the car whatsoever so I assume that with it only being driven about 20 minutes every 6-7 weeks the problem must stem from it having the original battery and not having it on a battery tender. Thanks
My son tried the disconnecting the negative battery cable for 30 minutes and cycling the switch with the car in accessories mode route and no success. As much as I hate it I suppose I’ll have to take it my local Chevrolet dealer that does more Corvette sales volume than any other in Atlanta and has a couple Corvette Tech “specialists” on staff to see what they find. Unless of course anybody had anything to try without the benefit of a scan tool.
Oh well. It seemed the steering column issue might have been related to battery replacement. If so, a system reboot might have cleared up a glitch. Since the easy attempt to reset / resolve didn't work it is time for proper diagnostics and repair.
I’ll let y’all know, it’s not something that caused him to take his family’s mini-van instead of the Corvette for their wedding anniversary trip through the Blue Ridge mountains and seeing the Biltmore Estate though! He works for me so I’m sure I’ll be able to get him out of the office one day this week and take it over to Maxi Price for diagnosis, I also thought it would reset back to normal since the problem has never presented itself until the battery drain. I do see there appears to be what I’m sure is a expensive motor assembly in the steering column but what a coincidence that would be...Thanks for the help

Got the car back today and cycled through a pre-set for the seat and steering wheel and that fixed the problem.
