My AC Delco Oil FIlter is on so tight I can't remove it. Tried several different wrenches and the metal is bending. Now I'm afraid I'll puncher the filter and then I'll be stuck.
Any suggestions? Is it better Hot or Cold? Are there any special tools to remove a stuck filter. It was put on by the dealer at my last free oil change. I can't believe how tight it is.
Funny because even though I've been changing my own oil for about 43 years, I actually ran through it in my head to just to make sure. Beaver Chevy is who put it on, I think I'm going to take it to them and let them deal with it.
Cheers Elmer!

Reason: Corrected Dealer Name
Try a strap type wrench as high up towards the filter base as possible. Be sure to get the correct strap for the filter diameter.

I have this type of wrench with a handle. I can't get up the body of the filter with the handle. Will this fit on my C7 GS Oil Filter? Is there enough room?
Just take a screw driver and punch it all the way through the filter, then use the screw driver for leverage. Makes a mess, but works.
I've done that in the past with other cars but there is no room on a C7, 2/3 of the filter is surrounded by the Oil pan and the Oil Cooler and Exhaust is on the other side. I get it that they recess it so It's not exposed under the car but it makes removal difficult.
Thanks,
Mario

I would punch a screw driver through it at an angle through the bottom of the filter and out the back side. It only needs to break out the other side of the filter enough to grab and there is room for that.
You asked for suggestions, that's my suggestion.
If you can warm the car up, warm it up. If not, put a heat gun on it to heat up the rubber seal. The filter probably isn't on that tight, whoever installed it probably didn't lube the rubber o-ring on the filter so the rubber is stuck to the filter housing.
There is enough room to get the strap type filter wrench on and rotate a little bit at a time to loosen the filter. You use a long extension in the square hole.

According to Einstein the definition of insanity is trying the same thing and expecting different results. Just kidding, if you decide the dealer again make sure you can actually watch the tech do it properly. Good luck.
I would second having the dealer try to take it off. My guess is they have tried and true tricks for this situation.
If you want to try something at home . . . A agree clearance rules out the Philips screwdriver thru the filter idea. I did have one wild idea, however. Is your filter wrench plastic or aluminum? If you don't mind sacrificing it, you might consider drilling 3 or 4 small holes thru it and then drive some heavy duty sheet metal screws thru the wrench into the filter.
The last thread I saw like, what ended up working was a filter wrench that looked like a big channel locks. I believe that's what worked. Maybe I can find the thread.
