I just received my AWE x pipe and plan on installing it next weekend. I've watched a ton of videos of how people are knocking the exhaust side of the pipe off with a rubber mallet. Does this installation have any effect on the 4 tail pipe alignments in the back of the car? I don't want to install the pipe and have to deal with getting the tips in the back aligned properly.
The alignment will only matter when you are deciding how far to push the xpipe into the axleback. So tighten it down some and check the tips before you torque the bolts down. It may take a couple tries to get the tips aligned right as there is some adjustment room.
The mufflers are bolted together so its not like other cars where the tips could be uneven , and the hanger controls alignment . Absolutely a piece of cake
I had no issues when I put my Borla X-pipe in... just wiggled the stock part off. As shown above the tips are in the muffler section and thus unaffected.
Two things to help during the install: get new donut gaskets and check for exhaust leaks before bolting the tunnel cover back on.
Wow, she is good. Very impressive! I'm looking at getting an X pipe.. What's the difference? They all look the same and should sound the same right? Some are more expensive.. Why?
Wrap some rags around the exhaust tips as the mufflers will move around once you disconnect the factory pipe. This will save and scratches or dings to the lower rear fascia.
Profit? As you noticed it just a section of pipe, there is no magic here.
The only worry would be fitment as you need everything to line up properly. So I would just check around here to make sure whatever brand / vendor your buying from fits without any trouble.
Having owned a chassis dyno i can tell you there are hp differences in different x pipes and exhaust. I dont know on the vette which is better as we did alot with race cars. A good x pipe and placement would add around 25 rwhp. The worst thing I ever saw was the auger style muffler that speedway or summit sells. 125 hp loss at the wheels...
Adding just an X pipe to a corvette adds nothing as far as HP , and shows a little.loss loss in torque . Which means GM did a pretty good job in the design , to bad they had noise requirements they had to meet
All said... just a note about exhaust tips since that was a concern here of the OP. Even with the mufflers "bolted together" they can still be misaligned (and badly). Mine came from GM that way and required: removing the stock bolt, drilling a new bolt hole in one bracket, and installing an aftermarket bolt to get them reasonably straight. The one saving grace is that IF the crookedness is within the skimpy adjustment range provided, it's quick and easy to do if needed.
