The catchcan will reduce the carbon and oil accumulation in the intake ports and backside of intake valves.
My 2014 stingray had 55k miles on it when I pulled the intake and heads off for porting, and it was quite fouled.

2014 Stingray 55k miles, intake port.

Elite engineering makes a real nice unit. First thing I installed on my 19 GS. Picks up a tablespoon of oil after a HPDE. If you install one buy a extra pcv hosed and use the quick disconnect connectors on the supplied rubber hose from Elite.

These LT motors need them more then most. That's why they have the more elaborate PCV system then LS cars and the more power you add the more they are essential. Are they a must....on a stock LT1 no but we recommend them. Once you hit around 600rwhp though they become crucial for crankcase ventilation.

An "Advance search" across the C5, C6, and C7 Forums will produce more... MUCH more than you will ever want to read about every possible opinion regarding catch cans. then, take your pick, install or not. But, no, they typically are not necessary. DRIVE and enjoy your Vette!
