Folks, I was hearing a whining noise from the front of my engine and figured it was the tensioner pulley. I spent about 2 hours removing the tensioner, taking pulley off, removing shields, cleaning bearing, regreasing and reassembling. The bearing was not dry and expect the noise will return but it is quiet for the minute. I would like to just replace the pulley and not the whole tensioner assembly. Does anyone know the dimensions of the pulley or a part number so I can see if Gates or Dayco have one available? I know the tensioner is about $70 but i'm stubborn and you should be able to replace just the pulley.
For any of you other principled people that don't like throwing stuff away, a replacement bearing is available under part number SKF 6203-2RSJEM. I have ordered one to have on hand and will let you know how replacment goes when mine gets noisy again. Curious to see how long that takes. Engineers, we like to think about things to much.
Update, almost a year later and zero problems. Have a spare bearing ready to go in but going to wait and see how long my cleaning and grease job hold up.

Fun fact: the new GM tensioner assemblies are garbage, as evidenced by the fact that the new one literally broke when I was installing it yesterday ... went to compress the spring to remount the belt and *snap* ... the sleeve that the tensioner pulley bolts into broke. So I just used the original assembly and mounted the new tensioner spring to it, and re-mounted it with no problems. The original pulley was fine, so I still have the new one in case I ever need to replace it. GM quality
