Default Mod questions

Do the DoD lifters fail in 4cyl mode or 8cyl? Will programming the AFM off eliminate the possibility of them failing?

for those with long tube headers, are you finding more heat in the engine bay? I don’t recall any of my C3s running hotter or feeling more heat.

I’m planning a few trips next year, Blue Ridge Parkway, Pikes Peak, and Route 66, and want the car to be reliable, but a little more fun than stock. (A8 base model)

my planned mods are:
Long tubes with catless mid pipe,
CAI,
Tune,
Small cam only if needed.

I do have my AFM/DOD turned off, but I can't yet answer the first question. I'm running ARH long tubes with hi-flow cats. I haven't noticed any additional heat inside the engine bay or inside the car. In fact, the car runs cooler overall mostly due to the addition of a 160 degree t-stat and the tune.

Yes the AFM lifters will fail even with the AFM tuned out. They are just a weaker lifter and if have a chance to replace them I would go for it (cam swap).
Long tubes generate some extra engine heat but it's not as big of a deal as some guys make it. Even with the extra heat the cars make an extra 30rwhp. They will not affect daily driving...even on long trips.
