I have a 2015 Z06 Z07. I am wanting to remove the front CCB rotors. Both rotors are stuck and won't come off. I've sprayed penetrating oil multiple times where the rotor hat meets the hub and tried using some careful manipulation (rubber hammer and regular hammer) in locations where I feel I won't damage the rotors but they are still stuck. Has anyone ran across this and if so, what did you do to remove them. The rotors are still good so I don't want to damage them.
On regular iron rotors you can remove the brake caliper bolts and use that mounting hole (along with washers and other bolts) to push the rotor off. Not sure if the holes align correctly on CCB rotors, you need push close to the hub on the non-CCB part.
If you are working on the rear make sure the parking brake is released!
This video below shows how... it saved me big time when the hammer method didn't work.
I was amazed at how easily this method worked. Almost no effort - just turning a wrench. I would crank down on the bolt, back it off, rotate the rotor slightly and repeat, going all the way around. This slowly pushed the rotor off. Just make sure to keep the lugs on so when the rotor finally pops its doesn't drop to the ground.
After I was done I cleaned up the hub with a wire brush, put some high temp brake grease on... this way they should come off next time without a fuss.
What screws???? Just kidding. Yep, removed them in the beginning. I was able to get both stuck front rotors off by using the caliper mounting hole with a bolt and a couple of nuts to push them off. Had to be careful and used a piece of steel between the nut and the rotor hub. It worked!!!! Thanks to JMII for reminding me of that method.
