Exactly, but if you have an automatic, a tune on the transmission can make it a different car.
What exactly do they tune in a trans? Is it a usual thing or do you need to do it seperate? I'm taking mine in next week and I dont
know what to expect. I've had this done on several cars but never the trans. I'm having UMS in Phoenix doing it.
In brief, there are 16 tuning adjustments to the GM A6 that can be made to make it shift faster, stronger, and allow the engine to be in more responsive RPM ranges, etc. The A8 should be similar.
I am presently communicating with The Tuning School in Florida about the GM A6/A8 tuning guide they show on their website. Just got a response that says that that guide is not out yet? More when I get more info.

I have a MY16 A8 Z06 and had the transmission tuned at the same time I had the ECU tuned. I don't know much about what was specifically changed but wow, it should have been done this way from the beginning. Very nice now, the shifts remind me of my DCT in my previous F10 M5. I believe HP Tuners asks for 4 credits for MY17+ A8 transmissions.

It appears the Tuning School is teaching the tuning of the A8 in their classes but do not have a manual out yet. Since the A8 is included with the A6 in the probable upcoming manual, the tuning techniques are probably similar. Apparently, BigVette427 above knows a tuner who knows the answer and can actually do it.

Patrick Guerra is one of the very best tuners out there and has been doing it since the beginning. He just posted a MY18 Z06 where he unlocked the transmission and tuned it, as well.

My X-pipe real world performance testing results where the rubber meets the road.
All results from the same 1/4 mile dragstrip.
* 3" Corsa X-pipe = I liked the sound but it slowed the car down the most; approx. .15 so it had to go. I sold it.
* Then I trieda factory X-pipe with cleaned out catalytic converters = Slowed the car down approx. 4 hundreds of a second (.04) in the 1/4 mile over a untouched OEM X-pipe.
* Stock = If your looking for performance stick with the stock X-pipe. From my understanding the X-pipe 'internal metal' catalytic converters are 'high flow' converters.
Note: never tried the Borla X-pipe.
Corsa X-pipe: painted with some heat wrapping to protect the A8 trans. OEM: gutted out converters.
Stock X-pipe Time Slip. Note the date. ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ _____________
