Default Cheap muffler delete

Inside of npp muffler

I have read all I can on the muffler modifications to the npp mufflers as well as the muffler delete options others have done.

my thought is why not just get some z06 mufflers and cut out both the s pipe and the perforated pipe? The npp valve is retained but would serve no purpose and get some AWE actuators for the afm valves.

This would be basically the same as a muffler delete that would bolt right up and look like factory mufflers. Not sure how it would sound though since the exhaust is still routed into a chamber rather than a straight pipe.

Z06 mufflers can be had cheaper than construction of the muffler delete or similar price anyway. Any thoughts on if it it would resonate or drone more than a straight pipe?

I have been contemplating trying this mod. I don’t think anyone has yet tried just removing both internal pipes, if so please chime in on the results. I suspect it would be similar sounding to the AWE track set up but who knows the chamber could dramatically alter the sound. Any thoughts?

I am no expert in exhaust fluid dynamics but I doubt what you have in mind would be beneficial to performance. Proper exhaust design is a complicated science.

Agreed but I’m not looking for a performance gain just a bit more volume from the exhaust. If I wasn’t in CA then I would just add headers and accomplish both.

I just thought this might be inexpensive experiment to try and if anyone had some insight it might be beneficial before I start destroying a set of mufflers.

will do. Looks like I found a set so I guess this is a go. Hopefully they bolt right up without issue, other than having to purchase simulators. At least when I go to the track I know I will not have an issue with one melting and ruining my day.

now I just have to figure out how much to remove, cutting both internal pipes out could make it sound like ***, idk.

I think I’ll try to do what this guy did and just Y the two pipes together.

Npp functionality would be minimal bit it should sound a bit different depending on valve position. Not sure how I would weld the bottom of the Y. I really have no fabrication skills.

this was my first project I did on the G8

I suspect this should be a bit harder, but it should be a fun learning project.

any input and or tips for accomplishing this are appreciated.
