I was reading another thread where people were talking about taking the AFM actuators off regarding melting issues. Well that got me thinking about simulators which I thought would be like o2 simulators but I've now seen they're plates.
Do they make your car sound better being it's a valve that's now open, basically like pulling the fuse for the NPP? I drive in manual mode so I wouldn't have to worry about it switching to V4 which I think would be most peoples issue. I know sound is subjective but in my opinion the car sounds great above 3500 rpm or so, cruising speeds it's a little to quiet.
Seems like there's got to be a negative otherwise more people would be doing it.
What I was thinking was doing the simulators and putting the fuse back in for the NPP to have better sound and more control over it or just leaving it wide open if that doesn't work. Anyone have any experience doing this or something like it? Thanks.
AFM are for eco mode to help the sound and back pressure for 4 cylinder mode. The simulators help with failure of the actuator from the heat of the exhaust. People remove them from the exhaust and use the simulators to keep the CEL light from coming on because they have been removed from the exhaust. All the simulators do is have a starting point and a end point to trick the module in to thinking the valves are acting correctly and will have no real impact on sound when driving in regular modes like sport, track modes.
My AFM actuators failed....without any track days. Started a few weeks ago, loud banging like the actuator is tripping out and opening and closing very hard. I turn my selector and it goes away, but always returns. Not driving her until they are replaced. No CEL either. Just the loud banging sound. Sounds horrible.

I have a 2015 1LT Manual7 C7 and wanted to install a catback exhaust but do not want to have a CEL. Do you know exactly how I can bypass the CEL? I've seen "AFM Simulators" but they look like brackets so I'm unsure how they help you not get a CEL. Would you mind sharing a bit more of the process?
Process? Remove the AFM valve actuators from the existing exhaust system, remove the existing exhaust system, install the new exhaust system, bolt the AFM simulators (which should come in the kit) to the AFM valve actuators. Basically, just follow the instructions that come with the kit. No CEL will light.
