Are the Optima DH6 batteries worth the money?
About to change out battery and was wondering if the Optima DH6 is the way to go.. ? Supposedly if you forget to plug in the battery tender and it's been a month or so it should still start??? Plus no acid leaks.. Any advice on batteries is welcome. Thanks.

I used the original Optimas for years, with good results, swore by them. At the time I could only get them from Summit Racing.
However, I have not been happy with ones from shortly after they were sold to a domestic company. The last two I bought (two different models) both proved to be faulty and returned. I'll never buy another. But, as they say... "Your mileage may differ." All the best.

I've used Optmas for years and had great success with them. I just bought a DH6 last week for my C7 so I don't have any long term use info on it yet. Batteries Plus had the best price that I could find on the DH6.

I too used to swear by the Optima's. Last one I had was over 10 years in service on a vette when I sold the car. So all my experience is very old. But as another posted stated, the company got sold and looking as some of the more resent experiences have not been as stellar.
I replaced with a AGM that came out of the local auto parts store 5 years ago and no issues with it. It was an EXACT fit, except the new one had a built in handle so it would not be such a PITA to remove next time. That was $150 at the time.
All I can state is that battery prices are out of sight! I remember complaining when I had to pay $60 for a battery! Now they are over $200.
Thanks to the all the Goobernment regulations.

I believe Optima was purchased by Johnson Controls and there have been many threads that quality has deteriorated.

I've noticed recently that when a battery goes dead it goes all at once.
Its happened to me twice. Not like the old days when it would get weak
slowly and you had time to get a new one.
What I do now is by a walmart mid range batt when they go on sale
and just swap it out every 18mos as part of my maint program.
I wont get stuck on the side of the road, and I can sometimes buy
3 batteries for the cost of 1 optima, and the new ones are a crap
shoot. You can get a bad one just as easy as not.

Nope. Go with AC DELCO professional with gold label. I promise you will never notice a difference of what battery you have in the trunk.
