I have a 2014 z51 with the only modifications being a afe CAI, corsa xtreme exhaust and corsa double helix x pipe. Should I get a tuner for my car, if so which tuner should I go with?
Okay so it’s not required but it would still help right? I want a handheld tuner to maximize my cars performance, and I think it’d be pretty fun to be able to tune my car myself. What is the best tuner I can get, or a few of the best?

So you are not going to tune your car with a handheld , at best you will get a mail order tune and then modify it slightly but if you don't know what youbare doing. Things can go down hill fast
If you want a tune , which I highly recommend if you are out of warranty.... is calling PAT G or one of the several other mail order guys and talk to them , they will sell you the tool that they use to log and upload tunes to your car , have you log a few runs. Email them the log and they will send you a tune back for u to upload, rinse and repeat a few times and you have a great street tune
Or
Find a local well respected tuner in your area and have it dyno tuned , make sure you research who is doing your tune well as the forums are filled with horror stories of guys who picked a tuner who had no idea what they were doing , especially if you have an A8 trans
You might pick up 20 hp from the tune qt best but the overall drivablity and fun factor will go up 200 percent especially if u have an A8
Okay, when I said tune my own car I meant buy a tuner that would have stuff loaded onto it, I’ve been looking into diablosport and they looked pretty good

yep , I use one with a custom tune , the preloaded tunes are pretty safe plus you can modify many parameters like gas pedal response, fuel etc, it'd also a great scan tool
you can log the car and view all the PIDS on the free viewer but unless you know what you are doing I don't recommend you modify the tune
Stay with the I 3 platinum 48 state legal ( I think it's the 8245 but check me) , the 50 state will not allow you to modify or upload a custom tune, plus the 1 3 will allow tuning the trans on a pre 2017 , the other Diablo tuners are either more expensive and full of stuff u will never use or they will only tune the ECM

Well that’s perfect, I saw a guy had one for sale on here brand new for $220.
I've been using phil@phdtuning for some additional custom tuning. I've been tuning my own car but Phil has helped with the trans and we are seeing some great pick up in ET and mph. He is a great tuner so if your looking for additional power he's on this forum. I'd also recommend E85 if you have it in your area. Its worth the bucks and you'll save about a buck a gallon in fuel costs. Best mod I've done.

@99vetteran what do you use to upload the tune from Phil ?
Are u using HP tuners or some other device
If its HP do you need to buy more credits for Phil to tune or do the credits that you orginal bought suffice ?
I am to the point that I need a real tune
Dave
I have a 2016 and to tune the trans no additional credits needed. I use HP Tuners Mpvi2 and I have 11 credits in my system now so I can tune additional vehicles if I choose. I believe the Mpvi2 comes with 6 credits. Basically I just log my runs in HP Tuners Scanner and send that Via email to Phil. He can make changes he deems needed and then he can mail it back to me and I'll download it into my HP Tuners VCM Editor I can load it into my ECU thru the OBD port. If you have a 2017 and newer with an A8 trans it will need to be unlocked by HP Tuners and thats expensive plus I believe its at least 4 credits to tune it. You can check with Phil for additional info on the credits.

Dcasole have you considered E85? It really is a great mod for the money.
Yes , I was thinking about it and I am checking on avalablity . Gas stations close to where I live don't carry E but I do have one that is close to where I work so I am on the fence. I already have all the normal bolt ons , Vararam CAI , ported intake , ported throttle body, headers , high flow cats and I am looking for a better tune as I am sure my custom Diablo Tune has left some power on the table . I also want to tune the trans
I am fighting the urge to put a blower on it only because I drive the heck out of the car, it's reliable and don't want to have to ride around with drag radials in order to get the car to hook 😫
My goal was to get into the 11's with stock runflats street tires using Launch control to keep the car from blowing the tires off of it which I have done prior to adding the headers and a better tune
I have not been back to the track since adding the headers and drag radials and E would be a great way to really dive deeper into the 11's
A cam would be nice but again I don't want to loose the driviblity factor so it would have to be a small one

Thanks for the info on HP tuners !
Dave
I think that is easily achievable. E is cheap hp and if your going to get a tune that would be the time to do it.

So Phil might help me when I go Maggie (for $$) ?
i could not pm you.
Diablo Lew. You get 1 year of his tuning and updates. Highly recommended. The I3 allows other items like CAGS turn if, DOD off, idle change, change rev limit and speedometer adjustments.
Thats fine if its a stock engine, but any mods it will need a custom tune.
^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^
I had a Lew tune on my C6 and now my C7 , I learned how to adjust it even further but you can only go so far with a Diablo Tool . Also Lew says EPA is cracking down on tuners so no more header tunes where he sets rear O2 to not report
