I think they do pretty well with no issues to fix, are almost ready for track short of a good set of wheels and brake pads, and make lap times that pretty very close to what Z06 makes. I think the spring rates are ultimately a bit too soft when the car is used with slicks or other R-compound tires, and that was my only major issue against GS at the time when I made a choice. It's likely OK for most users, but some track users end up switching springs to Z06/Z07 spec, and use DSC controller in conjunction to fix the dampening (to match stiffer springs). FYI, the front spring rate jumps from 117 N/mm to 190 N/mm with that change.

Sounds like very capable. Appreciate the response.

Pretty much nailed it. Only thing I recommend is switching to the GS Z07 package rather than the Z06 Z07 package. The GS Z07 retains the same front spring as the FE6 GS and instead adds a larger front sway bar. It adds a stiffer rear spring but keeps the FE6 rear sway bar (albeit with stiffer sway bar bushings) The DSC controller really helps to settle the rear of the car settled down under heavy braking.
The GS is bullet proof on track and doesn't have the drama some face with the Z06 cooling issues. Here in SoCal, on 100* days in the high desert, they drop like flies. I do wish the GS had 40-50 more horsepower....but that's basically a header swap and tune away. Also keep in mind the GS is ~100lbs lighter.
Lots of arguments can be made either way. Setting those aside, it's a very capable track car.
I did a couple track night events with my 19 G/S 2LT it was by far a better track car than I am a track driver. I moved up to a Z06/7 with CCB's but found that car to be very challenging with my skill level. I will agree that the G/S could use another 50-80 HP, but that is very attainable with some bolt-ons and a tune. If you're going to sell a ZR-1 and buy a G/S for the track I would look for a Z07 package as mentioned by a previous comment. some people don't like the CCB's because of the cost, but I think they are terrific and stopping power is spectacular.
Especially when you're coming out of a long straight into a hair pin turn. Good luck
I've been tracking mine heavily for almost 5 years now. Get a set of 18" wheels and you are good to go. My only complaint has been getting the car to hold an alignment for more than a couple months.
