2017 C7 GS manual with 50k miles crusing down the highway at 75 MPH in 5th gear. Suddenly check engine light comes on then stabilitrak error and service rear axle error message. Car begins running rough and misfiring along with heavy exhaust. Happen to be 5 miles away from dealership. Drop off car and wait a week for diagnosis. Ends up that pushrod snapped in half. WTF. Car has never been raced, never beat on. All oil changes and maintenence met. Luckily repair was covered by Powertrain warrantee. I ask the service advisor why this would happen and how to prevent in the future. No answers, He had no suggestions whatsoever. Couldn't explain why or lend any advise at all. UGH!!!
Has anyone else experienced this or heard of this happening to anyone else? Any thoughts?
Did you actually see the broken pushrod? From decades of Bonneville racing I can say that the only "snapped" pushrod I've ever seen was one of ours of carbon-fiber in the mid-1990's. The reason I mention this is that the reason for its failure and yours simply has to be the same, manufacturing and/or materials defect... most likely the latter, imho (ours judged so by the manufacturer--he returned it and I still have it)..
I'm glad your warranty is still in effect. You'll never see the same problem, again. That said, I can validate my prognostication by only using steel since the carbon issue noted; and, all I've accumulated since are some "nicely" bent pushrods, but never another broken one, not even close! All the best and I hope you are quickly back on the road!
No explanation because it's a unicorn type event if indeed the pushrod snapped in half. At least it was covered under warranty! Get back out and enjoy the car.

Thanks. That's good to know. I didn't physically see the pushrod itself. I can only go by what the tech explined to me and the service receipt outlining the issue nd the work that was done. I appreciate your explanation. I'm back on the road now and everything seems to be running fine.
