Default Dreadful Brakes Worn Message

I'm having the dreadful "brakes worn" message. My pads are visually fine and I'm pretty sure it's a faulty sensor in the front like most have mentioned. I tried looking for a youtube video and searched the forum for a DIY video but didn't find any. Do I have to take the inside brake pad out completely to plug in the new sensor? Or can it be done from outside the caliper? Also, what about the routing of the harness? Some have mentioned that they have found the routing to be incorrect from the factory and thus causes issues from rubbing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If the sensor pill fastened to the pad has worn through due to improper placement on the pad in most cases you should be able to see that without removing the pad. However, replacing it will require the removal of the pad which isn't all that hard to do. That is the easy part of replacing the sensor. The hard part comes when trying to disconnect the connector on the cradle. Each of them is wrapped tightly into the harness and it is difficult to get your hand in far enough to release the connector latch and pull the connector apart. I would have appreciated having a 6-inch longer reach to get that connector apart.

Thanks for the tip. I checked both front sensors and they were in perfect condition. Not sure which one was faulty or where the short was but I'm assuming it was at the connection on the other end. The driver side was pretty easy to replace but the passenger side was a P.I.T.A.! It was very hard to undo the connection on the other end because access was limited. I replaced both and no message after driving for a few miles thus far!

When I switched to iron brakes, I shortcutted the wear indicator line so it would not throw warnings.

This was 3 years ago, and I've never seen the warning message. Anyway, you might not want to do this since you might want this system to actually warn you when it's necessary, but well, it's an option if it drives you crazy.

Helped my brother do the same on his Porsche. He tracks the car and most aftermarket track pads don't even include the sensor.
