Not to long ago I had to take the GS in to check for suspected leak. I found some reddish fluid on the garage floor towards the rear of the car. Upon inspection the dealer found it was transmission fluid that was leaking from a seal. They replaced the seal and off I went. Fast forward to a week ago and the fluid spots are back. A visit to the dealer and upon further inspection they determine that the transmission casing is leaking from the seal area. Apparently the casting has a defect in material causing the seepage? Now starts the nightmare!!! The procedure is to have the transmission rebuilt. The service team is not happy with that determination based on the low milage of the car (5600 miles, still under BTB warranty). They instructed me to get proactive on this and reach out to GM customer service and insist on a new transmission. So I call up and speak to a very nice and helpful customer service rep which understands and seems to agree with the consensus. But as she said she can only try to advocate for my desired course of action but can't guarantee anything. So now starts the wait for prelim determination.
Part 2 of this is that the dealer has already found out that there are no C7 transmissions available. They said that GM support can make that happen if they determine and approve a NEW transmission. So now the waiting game starts. Monday is the soonest I can expect to hear back from GM and a District Warranty rep has to come out and see the car. Since I live near the dealer, they topped off the fluid and told me to take it home as they rather not have my Corvette sitting around in the shop. My service writer owns a 2016 Z06 so he understands customer angst over leaving our cars. So now I wait and prepare for the potential **** Show ahead...

Well a week into the process and no meaningful progress yet. Dealer and GM Customer Service is very helpful and friendly but no traction on solving the situation. I will be reaching out to the Dealer again today and press them to get this done. GM didn't seem like they can expedite getting the transmission... Obviously BS...
Coming up on one month! Dealer and GM Executive Resolution Liaison are hashing it out. I was told to expect and update this Friday. Hopefully something good will be reported then. I still can't believe not a single 7-speed transmission is available in all of the US... It's probably sitting on a container ship on the Commifornia cost...
What's wrong with a rebuilt transmission? If I were in your shoes, I'd try to negotiate a rebuilt trans with upgraded internals.
That's how I wound up with a bored and stroked 400 ci LS2 with forged rotating assembly instead of an LS2 crate motor when I hydrolocked the motor driving through a puddle that was deeper than it looked.

Given that the car is under BTB warranty and only has 5800 miles on it, I want them to step up with a new transmission. I have the time, albeit with frustration so I will press to get a new unit. At least for now...
How exactly is rebuilding the transmission going to correct a problem with the casting of the case?
Rebuilt doesn't necessarily mean the one currently on the car. If the warranty or insurance covers the cost of a basic repair, I've found that you can always find a shop willing to work with you if you're willing to pay the difference in price for upgraded parts vs. the standard rebuild.
Ask me how I know this (hint: look closely at the driver's door - I'm a transmission ace! )
So I got feedback from GM Exec Team rep today and they said that based on info from the District Manager and GM there are 7-speed manuals available in the US. Now I need to find out who is lying. The dealer still held that there were none to be had. If the DM and GM say there are they should know. The dealer service writer on my case said he was going to get to bottom of this Monday morning first thing. Now I will debate whether this Dealer should be the one to do this job going forward. The plot thickens... More to come...
Well GM has identified inventory availability and a new M7 is enroute to the dealer. Should be there in 3 to 5 days... I still wonder why the dealer was so lack luster and/or clueless about the transmission being available versus their first reaction of "no M7's available anywhere in the US"...
It's a business.... your issue hadn't gone across the right guys desk yet...and the service advisor just punched in the part number and inventory showed zero...that's just the retail side of the inventory.
Are you paying a car payment? If you are I would start sending them invoices for the car payment while it has been down sitting in their shop...
I have never heard of a casting issue in the M7 BTW, and I have owned a 14 and now a 19.

Ironically I paid off the loan just 2 days prior to the issue surfacing...

There is absolutely no way GM will allow a rebuilt transmission with any upgraded parts in it while they are paying the warranty bill. A rebuild GM Transmission comes from the warranty center and is shipped into the dealership built and ready to be installed. The dealerships dont rebuild transmissions these days in house for warranty work.

The dealer doesnt have access to the GM warranty warehouse, they dont always see what Gm has set aside for warranty repairs when it comes to engines and transmissions.

Man. These trannys have so many issues. I’m surprised that the M7 is having this one. It’s usually the autos that break down. Haven’t heard of this issue on a M7. Keep us posted

Yea, the M7's are generally reliable. I was just lucky I guess...
On a positive note, Dealer just let me know that the replacement transmission has arrived. I guess reaching out to GM CEO relations folks paid off as they stepped up and got the process moving and a new unit shipped and delivered in a matter of days... I'm scheduling for 1st week of January to let the Holiday madness pass. January 3rd drop off... Can't wait to get back to normal...
