I have a 2018 Stingray with stock non-NPP exhaust. After much research on the forum and web, I have decided on the S-type (medium sound) axle back system with AFM valves in the pipe. I am not making any other exhaust changes. I want the AFM valves, instead of simulator plates, so there is not an issue some day with my GM extended plan. Borla has told me by email that the valves work fine and don't throw CEL codes. I am looking for any user satisfaction feedback from forum members.
I understand your concern about Borla AFM simulator plates. I went with AWE AFM back mufflers to avoid any GM warranty plan problems. Easy solution and sound is great!

Thanks. I had taken AWE off my list since they don't show the valve-back option any more. I should call them to find out if it's still available. Did you get the touring or track version?

An AWE rep said that they stopped the valve back set because the customers wanted AFM simulators. Some internet resellers might have the old valve back version in stock.
I'm sure the Borla AFM valves/mid-pipe work just fine. It's a pretty simple system, and they likely re-use the GM actuator. However, I've never seen a GM warranty cover Borla (or any aftermarket) exhaust. If that's your reason for getting this system, I'd triple check that the warranty covers it.

Thanks. Not looking for the exhaust to be warranted, but want to avoid engine extended warranty disputes over using simulators.
do you even use eco mode? with the actuators still in place and functioning, nothing will happen
Well, I should have mentioned that the car is a simple Stingray with A8 transmission. AFM operates in all drive modes (none are called eco). It can be defeated by leaving the gear selector in "M" or using a Range device, but I don't want to do either. I just want some V8 rumble without a major alteration of the exhaust system. And that decision is based on wanting the remaining GM extended protection plan to be solid for the next couple of years.
Even if you are running on 4 cylinders, getting rid of afm will just make it sounds weird. Your car your choice
How many ways do I have to say that I don't want to get rid of AFM. What the heck are you reading? The entire thread is about keeping AFM but having more sound..

Yep it's official, you are a grumpy old man
I was just offering suggestions, just like everyone else. Do whatever makes you happy
